Hi there! I've been lurking here for a while and this is my first post. I'm hoping I can get some answers.
I've just been accepted to a DIL in AB and I'm getting ready to put together my requirements for the Student Direct Stream. I am aware that the minimum GIC required is CAD10,000. My question is does this need to be a higher amount if my common-law husband is coming with me?
Do I also need to provide other Proof of Funds, apart from the GIC and full tuition paid as required? I actually have the questionnaire going on the CIC website and it doesn't have a field asking for Proof of Funds, but I'm just wondering if this is better practice?
Lastly, does anyone know if there's a set time in which you must send in your requirements from receiving the Letter of Acceptance from the school? I received my LoA yesterday, but since it's still for the Fall 2020 (September) term, I was planning not to apply until around March at least. I'm just unsure what the repercussions are of applying too early or a little later.
We are also here in AB right now on visitor visas (6 months on January), visiting my family. Do you think this will have an impact on our application? We do plan on going home and submitting our application from there, but I just want to know if they will think that we're spending too much time here.
Hoping someone here has been in a similar situation and can shed some clarity. Thanks!
