If they verify and don't find your college and send you a letter about it, you can try to locate former professors or classmates to verify that you were there. Don't worry about it for now. I am sure colleges close all the time.

HI LEON - Need help in my case Spouse visa

Hi Leon,
Currently I am under open work permit in canada and have applied CEC for permanent residency. Received my medicals and submitted just two weeks ago. waiting for my passport request. But now I am getting married in Nov 2014. Will be leaving to my hometown and planning to apply spouse work permit once I receive my marriage certificate at my hometown. Would there be any issues for getting spouse work permit?. My work permit expires on 2015 may. And when I am back to Canada, I am gonna send my passport to CIC once I receive request. I will disclose my marriage details to CIC when sending the passport. Do you think they will approve the spouse work permit?.. and would there be any problem when I file PR papers for my spouse If I bring under spouse work permit?. Or shall I apply directly to Spouse PR after I get my PR?..Which is the best possible way and faster to bring my spouse?.

If I add my spouse documents to the current CEC file, how long would they take to complete the process?..Since I have only 6 months

Hi, if you get married at any time before landing as a PR, you are obligated to add your wife to your PR application immediately. When you get your passport request, you should therefore not send your passport but should say that you are getting married and want to add your wife to your application once you have the marriage certificate.

It is very important to do this in the right way because if you send your passport and get your visa based on being single but in the meantime you have gotten married, your visa is no longer valid. If you then land on this single visa after having gotten married, you will have committed misrepresentation to immigration and they can revoke your PR for that. Second, even if they don't revoke your PR, you would be barred from ever sponsoring your wife.

Your other option would be to delay your marriage until after you get your PR and then apply to sponsor your wife but this will of course delay your wife joining you.

As for the open spousal work permit, your wife can apply for it after you are married but there is no guarantee that she will get it. Immigration may look into things like risk of overstay etc. It may however help if you already have first stage approval for CEC that they know that you and your wife are most likely getting PR in the near future.

Thank you.

1. so you are saying that not to apply spouse work permit and there is less chance of approving it?..If it gets approved then what happens?.would there be any issues when we get the PR?...ok then what about the visitor visa?.
2. do I have to call or reply in the passport request mail to CIC about my marriage details?
3. would they extend my bridging work permit(Expires May 2015) if they take more time in processing PR(both of us)?
or do you think PR might arrive within may 2015 as only her documents to be verified?
4.What documents do I need from her when I comeback to canada(for adding her file)?

1. I never said you shouldn't apply for it. After getting married, you must add your spouse to your PR application AND your spouse can apply for a TRV or open work permit BUT there is no guarantee that her work permit will be approved. If immigration thinks she is a risk of overstay, they may deny her work permit application same as anybody elses work permit application that they think is a risk of overstay.

2. Yes, you should not send your passport for visa stamping if you are planning on getting married before you land. The reason is that once you marry, the visa will become invalid anyway. If you get a passport request before you get married, you should reply to them that you are about to get married and will be adding your spouse to your application so to please give you more time. Actually, since it is only a month until you get married, you could actually inform them right now that you are getting married and will be adding your spouse.

3. I do not know if they will extend your bridging work permit. However, I don't see why not because you still meet the requirements to apply for a bridging open permit if you are already on one but it is about to expire in less than 4 months and you still have confirmation that you are eligible to apply under CEC.

4. Take a look at the application forms you filled out and then go through the whole package again re-doing all forms that would change because you are married and where your wife would be listed as well as your wife would have to fill out some of the forms herself.

You've asked this question several times on this forum now. I'll give you the answer again.

Follow the instructions here to apply for a TRV:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/visa.asp

No - you cannot "convert" a TRV to a work permit.

To qualify to apply for a work permit you first have to find an employer in Canada who is willing to offer you a full time job. It is typically very difficult to find an employer in Canada since the process of hiring a foreign worker is long and expensive. Once you have found an employer - that employer must obtain approval to hire you through something called an LMIA. This process will take several months of processing to complete and cost your employer $1,000 in fees. If the LMIA is approved, you can then apply for a work permit.

HI LEON CAN YOU HELP ASAP

Hi Leon,
I got the PR card in November, 2013 and I stayed in Canada for around 2 weeks, after which I returned back to my home country.
I then went to Canada in August, 2016 and stayed for 3 weeks and came back again.
Now, I want to permanently move to Canada but the soonest I can move there is July, 2017 after I organise everything at home so that I can live there for good.
I know that I will not meet the 730 days requirement so will it be possible for me to enter Canada, and stay there and obtain the citizenship.
Is it likely that they could stop me at the airport immigration and not allow entry.
I am very scared as I will have to resign here from my job and sell my home and I do not want to risk everything.
Also my daughter will be applying to university there.
Kindly reply ASAP.
Thank you.

They can not refuse you entry but they can report you when you enter because you don't meet the RO. Nobody can tell you how likely that is to happen. If it doesn't happen, then you should stay for 2 years straight before you apply to renew your PR card and one more year to apply for citizenship. If you do get reported, it is up to you if you accept the loss of your PR or if you try to appeal.

HI LEON CAN YOU HELP ASAP

Hi Leon. Thank you for your reply.
I have another question. When I applied for my daughter she was the dependent, and is now 17 years old and will turn 18 in May. Is it possible for her to go there alone and live there while attending university and obtain citizenship or is there an age limit for that and she is too young.
Thank you.
