Help with Student Permit application

Hi all,

I'm a U.S. Citizen and going to be an incoming student in dental school in Canada and I'm getting a bit stressed about the student visa application process. The program is not cheap, so I'm going to be taking student loans from Sallie Mae to pay for my tuition and expenses while I'm in school.
I've finally gotten my PAL and other documents necessary (I think) to finish my application for the student permit, so I want to get my application done as soon as possible. I noticed that the processing time could be up to 12-13 weeks and that's scaring me because my classes start August 26th (about 9 weeks away!!). I've also read online from some people that it's very easy to get a student permit accepted at a port of entry. I do plan on driving up in August when I'm moving there for school, but I don't want to risk driving up and not getting approved for my student permit at the border. Can anyone confirm that the process works at port entry when I'm driving into canada? Also, can I just submit my student permit application online and if it's still being processed, just get it expedited when I'm entering Canada? Or will I be unable to process the application at the border because i already have an application pending from online??

Please help because I need to get this application out as soon as possible and I don't want to take any risks of not getting my student permit!
Thanks in advance!

If I need to apply online, I've started the application but I'm also struggling with the financial information page. In order to prove financial status, will it be enough to just show a document from Sallie Mae that shows I'm approved for the loan or do I need the final loan acceptance document? Because the school now has to certify the amount that I'm trying to request. And then they send it back to sallie mae to certify exactly how much I can get. If I wanted to show them on my application that my parents will fund my personal expenses, what documents do I need to provide to show that my parents can financially support my expenses while also showing that the loan will support the tuition at least?
