Help with request of FBI certificate

I've received today a request letter from immigration that requested:

"Please provide an FBI certificate from the United States of America as your Education/Personal History indicates that you were there from December 2015 to December 2017."

But I've never lived in the US. I worked for a US company as a REMOTE contractor during that time and all the services were made from my home country.
Did anyone experience that? Should I write a letter of explanation and provide proof that I was not residing in the US during that time?

you can write a letter of explanation stating that you never travelled to US and enclose proof of your salary in your home country , offer letter and all pages from your passport to ensure you had never travelled. Also, review the details you filled in and amend details as required . all the best.
