Help! What docs needed for Singaporean to apply Police certificate in Singapore?

Hi Expert,

I am a Singapore Citizen resides in Singapore. I just received my CIC ITA and going to apply the police certificate. But I am very confused about the police certificate.

In CIC website, they state police certificate will be only needed after submitting application. But in their ITA letter they emphasis to prepare police certificate as soonest as possible because application period only 2 months.

Now i am planning to apply police certificate at soonest but not sure what document need to provide to police for issuing the police certificate. Could any expert please advise me:

1, Do we really need to provide CIC issued letter to police when applying the police certificate in application stage?
2, If yes, what kind of letter do we need to obtain from CIC? Currently I only received ITA from CIC. Can we just provide ITA?

Do I need to provide a Police Certificate with my Application for Permanent Residence?
No. Citizenship and Immigration Canada will send you a letter requesting a police certificate after you send your Application for Permanent Residence. You must bring that letter when you apply for a Police Certificate.

Name of document(s) to get: Certificate of Clearance (COC)

Thank you kryt0n for the very useful answers. But understand after we complete the CIC online applciation (form), the website will lead us to the "uploading of documents" page. There there will be a section mentioning "uploading police certificate". what should I if I have no police certificate right now? Can I leave "Uploading police certificate" section blank? Or should I upload any other document in that section? Do you know estimated when CIC will send us the letter requesting a police certificate after application? Thank you so much!

Could you please guide whether my understanding is correct. so it means i just need to print out a document writing the sentence "I am applying from a country that requires an official request letter from CIC to get a police certificate.". that will be sufficient? Thank you!
