This forum used lots of terms like AOR, AIP, stage 1, stage 2, but the CIC website doesnt seem to use such terms all the time. And we never recieced an AOR at all. In order to apply for an open work permit we need AIP, will they tell us when we get that? Will they use the term "AIP"? This is what the website says about our application so far:

1.We received your application for permanent residence on November 16, 2012.

2.We started processing your application on October 5, 2013.

3.Medical results have been received.
Is this "stage 2"? Do we have AIP yet? Or not quite yet? What will it say when we get AIP?

Thanks.

AIP means Approval In Principle, not Application In Process.

AIP is issued when your sponsor has been deemed to have met their requirements to sponsor you and are thereby approved to sponsor you.
If you applied Inland and submitted an application for an OWP (Open Work Permit) it would likely be approved at this stage as well.

How is "AIP" issued? What does the CIC website say when you check your progress? Does it say "approval in principal?".

The sponsor would get either an email or a regular mail letter stating they were eligible to sponsor the spouse. Then the spouse would get a letter stating they were now eligible to apply for permanent residency. This would the AIP letter.

What you have shown as being in your eCas is the status of a pr application in process. You are obviously using the UCI of the sponsored partner and their information to access this information. Use the UCI and the sponsors name/dob/country of birth to access the sponsors information. You would likely see that one listed as "Decision Made" . Based on your timeline and such, I would say a determination on your application may not be too far in the future, so keep your eyes out. If you asked them to communicate by email, check your spam folders as well because some folks report that is where their mail lands.

Good luck!

Ok thanks. Actually I (the sponsor) have never been able to login to eCas either with the UCI or the receipt number. I thought only the sponsored partner could login.

In theory you should be able to log in as the sponsor with YOUR UCI and YOUR birthday, name, country of birth. That should bring you to the sponsors side of eCas. If you are unable, ensure you are using the proper UCI and try it with and without the hyphen to see if it helps, although I fully suspect there won't be much there other than date received date in process and decision made. There will also be a link at the bottom showing your spouses name which you can click on, however, I don't think you will be able to see everything that is going on there from your eCas, if that makes sense.

Don't use the UCI to log in as the sponsor, use the file number, it will be in the sponsor approval email. It is a letter followed by 9 numbers, eg. F000000000

I was able to log into my husbands eCas using HIS UCI and into my eCas using my UCI, so I guess it really is a matter of opinion.

Good for you. I, like many others, could never log in with my UCI, not once throughout the entire process, but could always log in with the file number.

The OP stated that the UCI didn't work, so s/he should try the file number.
