Hello everybody!

I got married in Ontario on December 14, 2013 and requested our marriage certificate on December 18, 2013, but it takes up to 10 weeks after registered to receive the Marriage Certificate. I sent a fax explaining the urgency, but have not received any return yet. My online track status shows the message: "We have been unable to match your application to an existing registration at this time".

I entered in Canada on September 20, 2013, and my status will expire on March 19, 2014 (after 6 months).

I will submit an application to extend my stay as a visitor and also an application for Permanent Residence.

To extend my stay I have to submit my application 30 days before my status expire (February 19, 2014) or I'll be out of status.

I already have all the necessary documentation for both applications, but not the Marriage Certificate.

Should I send my applications without the Marriage Certificate and send later when I receive it?

Any help will be appreciated. :'(

When you gotten married and signed the marriage licence, there should be a detached form of confirmation of marriage at the bottom of the marriage licence. This is to confirm that you got married while waiting for marriage certificate. Have you got this slip of paper? You can make a copy of it for yourself to keep and send in the original slip or make a notarized copy with the application.

I used this slip of paper as proof of marriage for documentation for my wife's TN visa to enter US the day after our wedding. The US embassy had no problem accepting that slip and issued the visa same day. So I suspect CIC will follow the same, after all it is in Canada. Mind you this is assuming the marriage took place in Canada.

Hope this helps.

It helped! :)

Yes, I have a Record of Solemnization of Marriage that was attached in the bottom of my marriage licence, but i read that is not a legal document. :/

I am afraid to send my application without the marriage certificate and have my application returned.

I don't know if I should wait more and send only after I get the Marriage Certificate or if I should send it right now just to make sure I don't lose my status. :/

I don't know what to do...

I know it is not a "legal" document but it is the only proof that you have that you got married.

If you are not in a hurry to send in the PR application, you can wait until you get the certificate.

I am also waiting for mine too . The way i looked at it is if you send in the application without all the complete information , they can either send back the whole package and you have lost 30 days or they can delay the application until you send in the marriage certificate . I called cic and asked them if i could send in the Record of Solemnization and they said to wait . Up to you to what you want to do , but i am waiting. Congratulation on your wedding .

OP will be waiting a lot longer than 1 month if OP takes the inland route. The 1st stage takes about 10 months. If OP chooses to apply outland, then OP would know whether CIC will accept application or not in about 1 month time.

Just so you know, this thread is over 3 years old so I doubt that the original OP will answer you.

I had a friend submit her application without the marriage certificate and her app was returned. She had to wait for the certificate to come in and file again. I guess some people got lucky sending in just the Record of Solemnization.. you can take the chance if you want.

Apply to extend your status in Canada. Wait until you have the actual marriage certificate before you apply. Do not apply with the record of solemnization - too high a chance the application will be returned in which case you'll end up in Canada without status.

Sorry but I have to express this opinion why are some so stress about the marriage certificate. I mean when I got married, I didn’t have problems after regarding the certificate. Isn’t it the officiants responsibility to file it? In my case our officiant did it and we got our license 2weeks from the day of our wedding.

Did you even read the thread? People are worried about how long it takes to receive the marriage certificate, as it can take 6-8 weeks in some provinces. That is quite the delay when waiting to submit a sponsorship app.
