Hi All,

I'm currently studying in Canada under a 2-year program. However, I am panning to apply for a full-time job as I already have prior work experience in my field from my country of origin. In the unlikely event that I happen to get an offer to work from a company here, would it be possible to obtain a Work Permit by flagpoling?

I have a co-op work permit which allows me to work full time with the school's discretion but obviously I won't be able to do this during school season, and a study permit allowing me to work at most 20hrs a week and full time during school breaks. What I really want is a full time work permit. To those in the forum who may have any idea of how this could play out, I was just wondering if this would be a viable path?

Thanks. :)

You'll need a full time job offer from an employer in Canada and that employer will then have to obtain an approved LMIA in order for you to be able to obtain a work permit.

Do you have a full time job offer and approved LMIA?

I haven't got either. I'm still asking around if someone may have done this already or if this is viable.

Based on your response this would be possible right? As long as someone gets a full time job offer and an approved LMIA, one could flagpole and obtain a work permit. I understand it's a long shot to be able to obtain an LMIA but I just wanted to know out of curiosity. I was just wondering how this would work out in the border since one would already have a valid Study Permit and Student VISA.

Yes - it's potentially possible provided you have a multiple-entry TRV.
