hello, I’m about to get married to my husband from England. He is currently staying with me as a visitor. We are going to work with a notary to help us with our application and I just want to be as prepared and bulletproof as I possibly can.

He will be staying with me in Canada while we wait for our application to be approved but he will go back to England so this is why we are choosing the outland application.

When we choose our chat history, what kinds of things are they looking for? We ha e been chatting for 4 years and they say the application only wants 10 pages of this kind of document as well as letters and things so we want to be very selective of the kinds of conversation content we send? My guess is something that shows the genuine relationship but what does that mean?

We will apply for outland application. I’m wondering what will happen if for some reason our application is rejected. We can choose to appeal or reapply. How does that work? If we reapply, we have to put that we have applied before and it was rejected? Does that make a difference in our ability to be accepted?

I’ve also read about getting notes or talking to our MP, how does that help?

It’s really scary because I’ve read some cases that are rejected that seem very valid so it really is up to the officer reviewing the file?

Talking about rejection, you are getting waaaaayyyyy ahead of yourself. Strongly suggest having a read of this unofficial guide aimed at Canadian / British couples.

Thank You very much for your help. This whole process is very stressful and with so much on the line, I want to make sure I do this right. This resource is very helpful. Even though it is an unofficial guide, I can see the information is very up to date and accurate. It’s so difficult to get the correct information when trying to contact immigrations Canada. Thank you thank you thank you

Things you can include along with chat history to show genuine relationship. Proof of his travel to meet you, proof of your travel to UK to meet him, pictures of you spending time together. Pictures from your wedding. Letters of support from people who know about your relationship. Ideally your parents/family/friends and also his parents/family/friends if possible. In the letter all they need to say who they are in relation to you and since when were they aware of the relationship and indicate if they were at the wedding. They can indicate when they met your significant other for the first time.
You can include call records you have with each other.

Take a deep breath!

Yes, there is ' so much on the line '. If you do things too fast chances are you will
make mistakes that will cause more stress and delays. Since your application is
through a similar country (Canadians love to drink beer) then just study the guide
until you both completely understand it. Move forward in little steps and don't be
afraid to ask questions. Does your notary have any experience with this stuff?

If you are confident about your future life together then don't get too caught up with possible
application rejections, appeals, or having to contact your MP...... May never happen.
Be aware the London Visa Office is known to be slow so it's just a long process.

I would spend as much time together as possible and make sure there are no previous
issues in the background. (like too much beer)? I would hope you have been to England
for some time and seen what it's like there. That would help your application.
The fish & chips are good especially with beer!

MP notes don’t really help unless you know the MP personally and they know about your sponsorship journey and relationship. In terms of chat history I would take examples over various time periods to show the length of your relationship.

Hey thanks everyone for all the help an support. It’s really helping to take me out of the stressful mindset I’m in. I just want to be sure that my husband will be able to stay with me and we can have our future together.

Does anyone have thoughts on working with a lawyer? Is it worth it?

Lawyer's are expensive and some just tell you what you want to hear....Then you pay.
I would also be careful of consultants. There are many wannabes out there that may not be qualified.
If you have extra money, not confident, or have background issues, then find a good one.

My suggestion would be take your time and get as much information as you can.
If your application is not complicated and you communicate well with your spouse then do it yourself.
This is what we did.....No regrets!

If you are of a ' stressful mindset ' then you may need some extra help.
There are resources available. ( Stay away from beer ).:(
It will be a long process so make sure you are prepared.
