Help required in Family Information Form of student visa for person with deceased parents

Hello all,

I am helping my friend to apply for a student visa and I have few doubts about Family Information Application form.

Both of his parents had passed away many years back and after that he started to live with his relatives as they adopted him but without any document like adoption letter etc. On all of his documents name of his original parents is mentioned. As his new parents are sponsoring his education now so what should he fill in Family information form at the place of name of parents.

Also, any other concern regarding this which I should have clarified beforehand else which might be an issue later?

Only legal parents names should be listed in his application under patents. He can include information about how he was raised by relatives that he considers as his parents although not formally adopted.
