Hi friends,
I along with my wife is here on work permit. Wife is on visitor visa. both are expiring 30 May 2015. I haven't got my LMIA from my employer. Expected to receive it on May 19. I can apply for extension of work permit after that. Meanwhile, what about renewal of my wife's visitor visa. Can i apply for her renewal only after I get my work permit in hand. It might take more than two months. I am also worried about her health coverage, as she is pregnant and needs frequent visit to doctors. What are the ways to keep her status and alberta health coverage valid.
Please suggest.

Did your employer started LMIA process? if yes, you can start WP extension without LMIA, but you have to proof your emloyer started LMIA process. you need the payment of the $1000 LMIA's fee, the filled application form, and the paper of the mailing.you will have 60 days to send your LMIA, when you will get it. your wife is not eligible for any health coverage in visitor status. you should apply work permit for her. Did she had health card? I am in Ontario, I am not 100% sure the rules are same in Alberta.

Thanks for your reply.I do not need LMIA (exempted) for my job. I will get my contract letter in one or two day, after that I can apply for renewal of my work permit. My current permit is expiring on 30 May 2015. My worry is about my wife. She came on visitor visa, which I had applied along with my application. She was entitled for Alberta health coverage till 30 May 2015. I called the Alberta health helpline and they told to apply the permit renewal for both of us and they can temporarily extend the coverage for 90 days. They didn't reply on the type of permit I can apply for my wife. I am afraid that I can apply my wife's visitor visa renewal only after I get my work permit in hand. Which will take minimum two months. Which will put her without coverage for two months. Any information about , when I can apply for her visa renewal will be helpful.

You can apply together with your aplication at the same time. Then you dont have to wait for two months.
