hi. In march 2013 me ,my mother and sister applied for citizenship. my mom and sis had completed more than 3 yrs in Canada whereas I was under 18 then, so I applied with my mom ( I myself have spent only 14 months in Canada). on 30th November (today) I turned 18. our PR cards will expire in july 2014. Now my question is that if our citizenship call doesn't come before july will I be eligible to apply for pr renewal though I haven't spent 2 yrs in Canada. What if I get the citizenship call after PR expiry.
Plz note that we r all out of Canada and will go in march or may next year for renewal.
plz reply as I m really confused.

No, you can not renew your PR card in July if you don't meet the residency requirements and you should not try. Just let it expire and stay in Canada until you meet the requirements again.

I m currently studying in med school in my country so i. Will have to come back for my annual exams in august. What if we are summoned for the citizenship thing after august (when my card expires and i have to go back to my country) ?

It is possible that if you leave Canada as you are still young that you would be granted a travel document to return based on that it was not your decision as a minor to leave Canada. However, as you say you are 18, if you want to complete medical school in your home country, you have many years to go still so if you continue to stay outside Canada, there is a real risk to your PR.

Immigration may give you a travel document once, possibly even twice in order to return but at some point they will say that you are not serious about living in Canada and that's it. Under the current rules, your parents could sponsor you for PR again as long as you are under 22 or even if you are over 22 if you are a full time student and financially dependent on your parents. However, this is changing as of January 1st and after that, children can only be sponsored if they are under 19 and no exceptions for students.

Therefore, it would be ok for you to leave in August because even if you are not granted a travel document to return and worst case lose your PR, your mother could sponsor you for PR again as long as she manages to send in the application before your 19th birthday. You would then have a new PR and you could spend up to 1095 days outside Canada again before your PR is at risk again.

If you want to live in Canada in the future though, it would be better to go to medical school in Canada. Then you wouldn't face licensing issues either when you are finished
