Hello,
If someone had sent out their PR renewal application in Canada, but had to leave back to their country during the waiting time (emergency reasons), what happens if the card is issued for them to pick it up in person? I understand you have up to 6 months (180 days) to do so. Will you be able to get a temporary visa to return and pick up your PR? How does immigration Canada work around that?

Thanks in advance..

If you are from a non visitor visa exempt country, you have to apply at the CHC/CIC office which serves the country where you are residing and apply for a travel document.

Thanks for you feedback.

My other question is, if my card expires Aug 2010, can I send the application earlier than that? If so, do I have to include my original PR along with it (even thought it is not expired yet). Because from what I understand, if your PR is expired, you will need to include it with you package. What happens if I want to send my application 1-2 months prior to my expiry date?

You don't need to send back your old PR card if it's not expired yet.
