Help Please - application submitted but passport is about to expire

Hello everyone!

I need a help from Seniors....

My application was received at CIO on August 06th, however my passport will expire on March 2015. I filled out all my application referring to this passport.

I believe I need to trigger the process for a new passport ASAP, right? this process would take about a month to be completed in my country and once I have my new passport in hand, what is the process to send a copy of this new one to CIO and have it attached to my application? I dont have an UCI code. I have read somewhere that CIC does not guarantee new documents sent will be added to your application.

Have anyone had any situatuon in which it was needed to send new documents to CIO after one had submit the application? I really need to know how this process is.

Please, could someone help me on the process that I should follow in this case?

Just sit back and relax; you first need to get PER. After PER, your file will be transfered to local visa office. When visa officer will start reviewing your application at local visa office, he/she will ask for new passport if it is expired or about to expire.

You shouldn't send photocopies of new passport to CIO but only to local visa office once your file is transfered to local visa office.

Is it true even if I need to renew my passport anyway, for some travels that I might need to do ? I mean, if I renew my passport (for other travel purposes not related to Canada), my old passport will be invalidated . Even in this case, I should not send photocopies of my nes passport to CIO?
I was wondering if when CIO agents check my passport and find it blocked (because I have a new one), if it would be a problem...

You can renew your passport anytime you want; there will be no impact on your application at CIO level. Once you get PER and your file is transfered to local visa office, then you can submit photocopies of new passport to local visa office.
