Hi
I am in the early stage of gathering information for my family spouse visa-outland. I plan to marry my Canadian girlfriend in Vancouver next month. We plan to submit the application in April as I should have the FBI clearance sometime in that month. However, I received a potential blow to our application this morning.
I was a student in Australia for a year in 1997-1998. A few weeks prior to leaving Australia I was pulled over by a police officer and i didnt have a license. He asked for my ID but never issued me a ticket. I told him I was studying at the University and would be returning home in a few weeks. I was never issued a ticket and thought he let me go with a warning since i was just driving to the store down the road.
On my Queensland driving history report this violation appears with no seat belt and speeding 15km-30 km over the limit. The fines total $605 on the report. I left Australia in December of 1998 and these were posted to me in January in Australia but I never knew about it since i left the country. My Australia Federal Police clearance is clear of any record.
I will contact the Department of Transport and Roads as soon as possible and pay the fines.
I have no criminal record other than this stupid act.
Will this be considered a criminal inadmissibility by an immigration officer?
Should I consult an attorney before I submit our application?
Should I consult the Canadian immigration office directly?
I am so nervous about this and realized I shouldnt have been so naive about this situation to begin with.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
