Hey guys,

I am sure this question has been clarified before, but someone please help me. My eligibility period is Oct 2013 to Oct 2018. I became a PR in June 2016. So for the temporary status before June 2018 what should I put the start and end dates for International Student and Temporary resident worker?

International student
From date: Start date of eligibility period End date: Start date of Post grad work permit or Day before my post grad work permit

Temporary resident holder
From date: Start date of my work permit To date: End date of work permit or day before the day I became PR?

Can someone please clarify?

You are mixing up two things:
- The validitiy period of any document that you have, which is completely irrelevant.
- The time you had a particular status, which is the only relevant one here.

Example with random dates:
- You lived in Country X.
- On 2015-08-20, Canada issued a study permit and/or visa for you
- On 2015-09-03, you ACTUALLY entered Canada and became a temporary resident
- You study permit and/or visa had an expiration date of 2019-04-01
- Until 2018-05-01, you were a temporary resident
- On 2018-05-02, you landed as a permanent resident.

Only the bold printed dates are relevant. Ignore the validity date of any residency documents. You can't hold both student status and permanent resident status at the same time that makes no sense.

The valid until dates only mean that by then you need to renew documents/status.

Similarly, if for some reason you were issued two study permits over the time, that does not change that you continuously held status, there is no need to enter two study permits as separate times.

In fact, I think if you try to enter overlapping dates, the calculator will give you an error message.

Thanks a lot for your response. I think I get what you mean. So you are saying ignore the expiry dates for both study and work permit? But then I thought the whole point of entering the start and end date for international student and temporary resident work permit holder is they are checking that you were in legal status during that time isn't it?

Sorry but it is rather confusing. So if I just put the periods of being a student and then temporary worker in physical presence calculator, what about in the application itself? Do I then in the application put the exact issue and expiry dates of the permits, because the when I click on Help for ques 9(b), they say this "Tell us year, month and date you were granted each status".

Thanks for your help again.
