Hello,

I am unable to decide on a NOC code for my occupation. I work as a senior credit risk analyst at a bank and I have asked NOC for a code for my occupation. They told me that it is 6235. However, I do not perform most of the duties on 6235 but I do perform a lot of the duties on 0122 (credit manager). I'm confused in choosing between 6235 and 0122 because my occupation is not a managerial occupation yet the duties listed on 6235 do not come close to matching what I do, however 0122 does. :-\

Can someone please advise?

Thanks.

I applied under NOC 6235 which fit my role perfectly (Financial Services Representative). I believe this NOC is mostly related to positions which invlove a lot of interaction with clients(retail environment such as a Branch for a Bank). If your job title is mentioned under NOC 0122, salary on par with 0122 and and as you mentioned you perform most of the duties of 0122...then I would say apply under 0122 provided you can get a employment reference letter aligning your role to 0122.

I have a post graduate work permit so I do not know my NOC code and neither does HR. I checked with my colleagues as to which NOC code fits me better (i.e. between NOC 6235 and 0122) and they suggested 0122. I do not have any subordinates and my job title is not mentioned in 0122. However, I googled the salary for a credit manager and it is quite close to what I earn. And in my bank, my level is a managerial level, even though my designation is not (I don't know if that makes complete sense). What's confusing me is that I am able to match most of the duties on 0122 to mine and I'm unable to do so with 6235. However, I am not a manager, I do not have any subordinates and my position is not managerial.

Okay. In short, I'm responsible for monitoring the risks associated with a credit extended to a client and escalating any breaches and ensuring credit compliance. This is not shown in 6235 but it is shown in 0122.

Thanks. I just doubled checked my salary on the working in canada website. It is not the median/average salary and yet it isn't the lowest wage for 0122. My title is not on 0122 and actually it isn't on 6235 either! But when it comes down to comparing duties, 0122 is a better fit. :-S

Good points byrwus.
Nikki30588 can you get a job description from HR? I know the banks normally won't help with employment reference letter mentioning duties but you can get you manager to write one up. But if you can get something from HR, maybe it will shed light on exactly what you were hired to do. As byrwus mentioned, maybe you're just good at what you do and you've been given additional work to do...let us know your situation exactly as it is. I've seen rejections based on incorrect NOC, duties not matching or salary not in line with NOC.

Thanks guys. I have my reference letter but I honestly don't do most of the duties mentioned in 6235 but I do do a lot of them mentioned on 0122. I will discuss the same with my manager but this is rather confusing for me. To make matters worse, the application cap does not help! :'(

I was hired as a senior credit risk analyst and no additional duties were given to me. Like I stated before I'm responsible for monitoring the risks associated with a credit account, ensuring credit policies are adhered to and escalating any breaches. All of which are mentioned in 0122 and not in 6235. :\

That's tough, I see what you mean about the NOCs. The concern is that CIC usually looks for managing / supervising other staff as a key indicator of "managerial" experience. I recognize that's not a big part of the credit manager description, but it's something to be aware of. Also, do you plan/direct/control the activities of the department? Not, you're not a manager. And if you report to the credit manager, then you probably aren't one, and you're probably better off with 6235. You could send your job descrption to HRSDC and see what they say, just be aware that their verdict is not binding on CIC...

I checked with another colleague of mine and she suggested that it is 0122. However my manager thinks it is 6235. I am still not very convinced with either of the NOC codes. Is it possible for me to file two separate CEC applications?

This is what I do, in summary: Manage all aspects of administration and monitoring of established credit facilities and maintain independent responsibility for the input, monitoring and escalation of risk elements on complex credit portfolios in Credit Processing with minimal supervision.

Any idea on how to approach this, in a best possible manner?

Thanks!

LOL, that's because 0122 would probably be your Manager's NOC. I think it's probably 6235 as well.

You can, but my suggestion would be to pick 6235 (not the least because your Manager has to write a letter of employment for you). Then include a written explanation about how your position seemed to be between those two, and why you picked NOC 6235 (because you don't manage a department or other staff).
