Help needed!

Hello!
I have applied online for a work permit on July 27, biometrics done on 13 August.
My flight is scheduled for September 8, I should theoretically start my work on September 9..
I haven't heard anything from the IRCC since I have applied, and at this point I doubt that I will get any email before my departure.

I wonder if I could just fly there and ask the border officer if I could get the permit then, since they have all my papers.
if not, I'll just enter as a visitor, since my flight back home is after 2 months.

What would you recommend?

What passport do you hold? Where do you live?

Work permits can only be processed at the border in very limited circumstances and I believe those services are generally on hold right now due to COVID.

Best option is to postpone travel until the work permit is approved.

Italian passport, living in EU.
I can enter the country without visa, only with ETA (which I have...).
A lawyer suggested to go anyway, stay there as a visitor and eventually go to the land border in case I get my email confirmation.
That might be an idea. Did anyone experience this?

Yes, you can enter on an eTA as a visitor but will then need to make sure you have a return ticket (not one way).

Yes, for some lucky reason I have the return flight after 2 months!
