Hello everyone,

I'm currently in Europe on my final year for my PhD. I can't wait to leave Europe behind and I am already looking for academic, research etc. jobs in Canada as well as the U.S. My wife to be is Canadian and we are years living together. I need some help understanding what would be the best course of action. Two conditions only, we want to get out of here asap(within a year) and we don't want to be separated. Here are a couple of options that we consider:

- Chasing for a job and work permit(not immigration) in Canada for myself. Then after we move there, apply for spouse sponsorship visa. My fiancee's PR is still in Canada but we've read that they need a proof that she could "feed" me for 3 years and well I guess she would need a job in Canada for that.

- Connected to the above, I would like to ask what is the job market for PhDs in Canada? My degree is in Computer Science and it is completely in English (clarifying because the country is not English-speaking). Are there academic jobs or even IT jobs available? Do they sponsor people from overseas?

- Another choice that we really consider since I've seen there are many jobs in the U.S. is to attempt to get there through H1B visas which is considered as a dual intent visa. The only part that scares me, is that if should something happen, would I be forced to go back to my native country and she will end in Canada? Put simply, in an unfortunate scenario, would Canada accept our family, or would I have to leave behind my wife, go back to my native country, apply for a spouse sponsorship and then wait for 12-18 months till we are reunited again?

The latter really bugs me because according to what I've read, with the waiting times for spouse visas, it feels as if Canada would separate couples for a year or year-half. It can't be right, right?

I greatly appreciate any help and insights you can provide from your experiences!
