Hi guys,

I didn't know there's a forum for citizenship application. Glad I found this in time before filing my application. I have 4 questions:

1. I don't have a home phone and use my cell phone which has a US phone #, that is, with a US area code. I don't currently have a work phone # either. Will this be a red flag? Do you think I should get a local phone # for the citizenship app?

2. On the application form, there's a section where you have to list your addresses for the last 4 yrs--Good news is that I have lived in the same address for the last several yrs--but there's no area where I can list a short trip abroad. I once visited my home country to attend an academic conference and stayed there for about five days. It was before I became a PR in 2010. So I guess I don't have to disclose this information. Right? Of course I should provide this info only if I get hit with a RQ later.

3. Do you think it's a good idea to include supporting documents that prove 1095 days of my residency in Canada with my application as it seems more and more people get RQs these days before or after the test. Such as a letter from my landlord. Or I am even considering CBSA & OHIP record. Is it unnecessary?

4. My driver's license and OHIP card expired and I renewed them a few days ago. Is it OK to send copies of my old DL and OHIP cards with renewal receipts with my app? Or should I wait until the new ones arrive.

Much appreciated,
cocosyr

Pre-Assessed..
1.Yes you should have Canadian phone number, US will flag you for sure
2.They need information for 4 years prior to citizenship application so if you were living out of Canada, still you have to give details. I don't think you have to give absence details prior to becoming PR..
3.This is discussed in previous posts, no harm in sending very few supporting document(5-10 pages)
4.NO....you have to submit copies of valid id's...wait for new id's
Confusing thing is you said you became PR in 2010, why are you submitting application now? it will be more clear if you can share dates so
other member can help as well.

Hi Mary,

Thanks for your response.

1. Yes, that's what I thought. I'll have to get a landline local phone #. I used to have one when I applied for PR, but I couldn't stand dealing with either Roger's or Bell.
2. I have never lived outside Canada since I became a PR and since I originally arrived in Canada several yrs ago. Except a short 5 day visit to my home country before I became a PR. So I guess there's no need to list it on the application.
3. Yes, I'm thinking about sending a few documents like a letter from my landlord, a big property management company.
4. Oh I thought that old DL & OHIP cards with renewal receipts were OK. Well, then I'll have to wait for weeks until new ones arrive. I should have renewed them earlier. I became a PR in 2010 and I had lived in Canada for three yrs before that. So I have already met the residency requirement.

Roger's "pay as you go" cell phone service is cheaper than its or Bell's landline home phone. Do you think it's OK to get a Canadian cell phone #? Or should I get a Canadian landline home phone #? The citizenship application clearly asks us which one (home/work/cell phone #) we have. Now, I am sure I won't put my US cell phone # there on the app. Thanks.
