Were your parents already Canadians when you became 18, in case you got adopted, were you already adopted at this time (means adopted as a minor, prior to the day you turned 18 and prior to the day they became Canadians?

Yes: In that case I think you are Canadian -wrong, have to apply for PR first, Family Sponsorship Category
No: Well you have some way ahead of you, first you got to apply for PR (if you are not already), your parents will be able to sponsor you. Once you have fulfilled citizenship requirements, see CIC Citizenship page (main requirement: lived in Canada for 1095 days minimum) you can apply for citizenship

There's no shortcut, like a sponsored citizenship for adults, if you aren't a MP :) - in appropriate comment, I know...

Q: Why didn't your parents include you on their application?

Hey Mike,

Thanks for replying. Yes, my parents were already Canadians when I became 18. So How do I go about now?

As for your question, my parents at that time didn't thought of applying for me as they worry the Malaysian Immigration Department will revoked my Malaysian Status.

Thanks!

I kept reading on the CIC page and now I think I was wrong with my first statement. I think you still have to apply for PR first and unfortunately it is a tricky case. You got to answer the question: are you a dependant? To answer this question I send you to the CIC page as it involves many personal topics.

www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/publications/ref-sponsor/section-2-11.asp

This is very important when it comes to validate your eligibility, take your time. If you are eligible, than family sponsorship is your way to PR. Should be relatively easy and fast, relatively. If you do not fall in the dependant category it'll be a lengthy process, family sponsorship as well, but different, more complicated, long winding road.

Well they should have included you in their application...

It's worth consulting a lawyer in your specific case as there are a few loopholes since they changed the family sponsorship category in October 2012.

When your parents applied for their PR, they may have included you in their application as a dependent child, either accompanying or not accompanying. If it is the former, you would have gotten a PR visa and should have landed as a PR. If it is the latter, you would have had your medicals to keep the option open to sponsor you later.

If you are already a PR, you must live in Canada for 3 years and then you can apply for citizenship.

If you are not already a PR or have lost it due to not meeting the residency requirements, you need to get PR first.

Your parents can still sponsor you for PR as a dependent child as long as they apply before you turn 22 and you are at this point not yet married or in a common law partnership.

S/he only can be sponsored if s/he was included on the parents application and was medically examined. If s/he was not examined, then s/he is not a member of the family class and can't be sponsored.

Hey Mike,

Not sure if I'm adopted but I have a birth certificate under my parents name. Would that be sufficient?

I know right!!! They should have included me into their application. But come to think of it, at that time when they were naturalised Canadian, I don't think I was part of their plans.

Anyway thanks for helping!:)

Cheers.

Did they get their PR before you were born? If they did, there is no fault on their behalf and they could still sponsor you for PR now.

However, if you were already born and they did not list you on their PR applications, not as accompanying nor as not accompanying, they committed misrepresentation towards immigration. If that is the case, they would never be able to sponsor you.

They got their citizenship before I was born. Can I apply for citizenship under their son? Why they have to sponsor me when they got citizenship before I was born.

If they already got citizenship before you were born, you are a citizen too. You just need to apply for your citizenship certificate. The forms are here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/certif.asp

Something doesn't sound right here. The OP seems to be skating around the subject whether he was natural born to the couple. All he will say is that he has a birth certificate with their name as parents. He should know if they were his natural parents.

Hey PMM,

I'm not sure because I don't see the whole process when I was born. You don't expect me to know whether I was natural born to my parents when I pop out the belly. All I know is I have a birth certificate and I have been living with my parents since young.

Thanks!

Get your parents certificates, originals (!), take you birth certificate, original -translated by an affiliated translator if it is in foreign language, go to the Canadian embassy -if you live abroad- or passport Canada (service Canada) if you are in Canada and apply for citizenship certificate. Leon posted the link above.
If all your documentation it legit you'll have no issues in getting your citizenship certificate and apply for passport. You are born to Canadian citizen, which makes you a Canadian citizen automatically.
