Dear Friend:

My post graduate work permit is about to expire in march. And I have already applied both CEC and AINP. my Immigration agent is trying to convince me to apply LMO (which will cost a lot of money). he said the file number for CEC file number will wait for at least 3-4month. But I have already received AINP file number. can I use it for extend work permit? please help me. or is there any other solution to extend my work permit?

thanks

Hello JimmyLi,
To me it sounds like you could be eligible for a bridging open work permit. Please check the following link for more information: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/bulletins/2013/ob485A.asp

Also, note that you cannot apply for a LMO, your employer has to do it for you. Be sure to tell your employer that they need not show employment efforts since you are on a post graduate work permit.
Hope this helps!

Hello Nikki:

Thanks for your reply. yes I did look at the page But one of the problems is may takes couple more months (3-4 )for CIC to give a file number .But my work permit will soon expire in 3 months. Can I apply for bridging work permit without a file number?

thank you

Jimmy,

You could try and submit a paper application for a BOWP, with a letter of explanation as to why you are applying without an AOR. You can submit all the documents to show that you have submitted your pr application. I'm not sure if this will work, but it gives you enough of time to receive an AOR. By the time you have received an AOR, CIC could probably check on their system if you have received an AOR or not. You can apply for your BOWP, paper application before your current work permit expires.

I hope this helps!

Good luck.
