Hello, I am from England, UK and I have been living in Canada for almost 18 months and in a relationship for over 18 months with a Canadian girl I am now going to marry.

I am currently living and working in Canada under a temporary work visa (The IEC visa). I can't apply for another as this is my 2nd one (Maximum 2) and I wish to continue living with my fiance and staying in my current employment.

What are my options? My fiance and I are looking at her sponsoring me to stay, but we aren't sure how we would start the process? I have 6 months left on my temp IEC visa, is there any way to extend it considering my circumstances?

Any advice appreciated!

Many thanks.

You can not extend your IEC visa but if you get married and your wife sponsors you for PR, you can apply to change your status to visitor when your IEC visa expires. That way you can stay, even though you can not work.

You can find the PR sponsorship and application forms here:
