Hi, my name is Auston Pramodh Barboza. I have been trying for the Canada Study permit for 1 year now. Have been rejected 3rd time. It has been really painful getting rejected.
I need some help, some suggestions on what was wrong with my profile. It would really mean a lot to me. I have no other ways to get proper suggestions. Please help me out.

My profile is as follows:
10th : 76%
12th : 51%
Bachelors: Btech, IT. 2015-2020
CGPA: 1.2
Backlogs: 40
IELTS: Overall 6.5, no section lesser than 6.
Work Experience: 3 years
Profession: Senior Software Developer
Application for Canada
Chosen Higher study: PG Diploma
Course: Cloud Computing
College: Loyalist, Toronto

1st Refusal in November 2020:
Previous education/employment experience is inconsistent with current educational goals; I am not satisfied that the motivation to pursue this particular program in Canada, at this point in time, is reasonable; See LOA/transcripts

2nd Refusal in March 2021:
Given the applicants previous education/employment history, I am not satisfied the motivation to pursue this particular program, at this point in time in Canada, is reasonable; See LOA

Additionally, marks sheet provided indicate poor academic record in areas of stufy that would form core of future studies. I have concerns that applicant will be able to successfully complete the study program in Canada.

The applicant has failed to satisfy me that pursuing selected program of study is reasonable given the high cost of internationaly study in Canada when weighed against the potential career/employment benefits after completion, and the local options available for similar studies. See LOA

I am willing to share other details, please feel free to shoot an email, I will share my WhatsApp number so we can connect over the phone.

The reasons I am suspecting:
  • The course chosen might be wrong.
  • There is no significant boost in my career growth.
  • Overlapping education and employment history, which might be the reason for inconsistent education/employment history.
Please help out. Feel free to let me know if more details are required, or if I am missing anything.

Did you order GCMS notes for each refusal? Why do you need to spend thousands on a cloud computing course at loyalist when you are a software developer? Should be doing a Masters but is your CPGA really 1.2 with 40 backlogs? That is an issue. Your reason for refusal are correct.

Yes, I have ordered GCMS Notes for all the refusals. 3rd refusal was on July 19th, waiting for GCMS.

GCMS notes for 1st and 2nd:
1st Refusal in November 2020:

So, I feel you are right, Cloud Computing postgraduate is kinda bad choice when I am already a Software developer.

Masters won't be possible due to the low cgpa and backlogs. Please correct me if I am wrong. I am willing to do masters.

Your issues are very poor grades and the fact that you are a software developer so cloud program make no sense. You would not get into a Masters program. Also having 3 refusals in a year looks desperate. You should find a program that builds on your current career (can only be found in Canada to justify the cost) and not apply for some time.

Based on your poor academic record the VO suspects you're not a genuine student.

I completely understand. How do you think I can fix this issue? Prove VO that I am a genuine student. A strong SOP? or do you have something else in mind? Please suggest.

So you don't see your poor academics as a reason for your refusal?? You have a CGPA of 1.2 and 40 backlogs!! That is the CORE reason of your refusal

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I don't think you will be approved a study permit with your current profile. Your refusal reasons have been consistent - previous education/poor academic history and irrelevant course.

The only way to overcome irrelevant course is to go for a Masters program and with your CGPA, that's not possible with any good uni in Canada.

The only way to overcome your poor academic history is to pursue another degree in your home country (or any other country besides Canada that will grant you a study permit) and if successful with that, apply for a higher program in Canada.

Have you been applying by yourself or using an Agent? If an Agent, they've been stringing you along and collecting your money because they know what the outcome of your applications will be given your profile.

I suggest going for a Master degree in India, get a good grade in it and then apply again for another Master in Canada with a different focus.

Thanks for the help. I completely understand. I have been applying by myself.

I have about 3 years of Work Experience, I have been excelling in it(In terms of Package and Designations). Can my work experience help me in this?

You need to show how the program will advance your career. Your grades and backlogs are still your biggest issue.

Do your diploma in your home country, so you can save the time and money in applying for a study visa.

Sounds good. I think Course selection was one of my faults too, and not specifying properly how will the course help in my SOP too. I understand that the grades are an issue.

I will try applying again with a different course. Thanks for all the help. I appreciate it. Your first response was very powerful and concise.

I can certainly do a diploma in my home country. But I still believe grades can be justified on SOP and covered with my work experience. I really want to try again for Canada. If it doesn't work out, I will surely think about this.

Thank you for your time on this. I really appreciate it.

1.2GPA cmon man. Hard to explain that away.
I think I have missed something here. It's 1.2CGPA out of 4. I will update the first post, so no one gets confused.

I understand it's bad, Unfortunately, it's a mistake that I will have to pay for in my life. I understand it was a huge mistake. I really want to overcome it.

[Update]
I tried editing the first post, unfortunately, I cannot edit it. There is no option to.
