Hey guys.. will try to keep this short..

I am in Canada under an extended visitor record, waiting to reach common law status so I can apply for PR. my travel insurance ran out and when I tried to renew it they refused. (I used it all but one time while I was here, I guess that´s enough for them to reject you)

Ive gotten really really sick. Won´t go into details but I´m in a lot of pain and need to find out what´s going on. Have been to walk in clinics and they can´t find out whats wrong. Went to the ER, paid $800 and they were no help at all. I´m screwed aren´t I. Are there any resources for non residents in this situation? Any thoughts?

Thank you :(

Does your partner not have medical insurance through work? Although some companies say they cant insure Spouses/Partners that are non residents and only visiting..THEY CAN..Its just more paper work..I was insured by Great West Life Medical for 2 years and now insured by SSQ (Quebec Company) for 2 years through my Husbands medical at work..it covers almost everything OHIP doesnt..

Sorry to hear that. Are you well enough to fly back to your own country for treatment?

Do you have acupuncture and Chinese traditonal medicine walk-in clinics in your area? I know there is in Toronto and Vancouver. Chinese medicine is worth a try.

I'm sorry to hear that.. I'm dealing with some health issues here too, issues that wouldn't be covered by visitor's insurance anyway. :(

Most doctors here take cash.. you say you've been to clinics, did they not refer you to a specialist? I know that's very costly but it may just have to be done. I know paying cash here is much cheaper than in the States but I'm not sure about your country.

A lot of people have issues/chronic pain, etc and doctors don't know what to make of it.. my mom has been through it for years. Perhaps alternative medicine can help as well. Best of luck!

A lot of how you might (or might not) be covered depends on the Province you're in. In Ontario there are some resources available for spouses of Canadians who are in the country waiting for PR funded by a grant through OHIP - but it's all over the board depending on the type of PR ap you submitted (inland v outland) and which Province. It's a tough situation to be in but don't compromise your long-term health. Maybe if we knew more about where you are in Canada, how long you've been in process for PR, what type of status you have in Canada (are you documented as a visitor, or were you just "waived in" on entry) and so on, we might be able to give you some more specific suggestions.

Maybe try calling a nurses line and see if they can advise? I hope you feel better soon.

Do you (or does anyone here) know of a website where these requirements are set out explicitly for Ontario?

My partner is in this situation right now. His health card renewal was rejected. I think we're out of luck because I am sponsoring him outland, but it would be nice to see some kind of confirmation.
