Hi,
Sorry if this topic exists already, I just registered and tried to read most of the forum, but could've missed something.
I just got a job as a Guide at Alberta Legislature.
The job description is very much like the Museum Interpreter (NOC 5212). Here's the quote from my job description:
"As an ambassador for the Alberta Legislature you will use your dynamic interpretation and presentation skills to
deliver educational, general interest and specialized tours and programs...
Postsecondary education and/or related training are required. Knowledge of educational programming, cultural
and/or historical interpretive techniques and an interest in history and the political process are preferred. Proficiency
in French or other languages is an asset."
NIC 5212 DOES qualify.
But the JOB TITLE is a "Guide", which very much reminds of "Tour and Travel Guides, 6531". Which DOES NOT qualify. According to NOC, Tour guides simply answer visitors' questions, which is different than what my work responsibilities are.
I called Canada Immigration last week and asked them whether they go by title or job description. First the girl there said that they go by job description, then she put me on hold and after she came back, she said they go by title.
I asked at AB Legislature whether the title could be modified somehow (like write Guide/museum interpreter) but they said "actually we just call it a Guide". Obviously, since I'm supposed to start working there in 10 days only, no one would into so much trouble as to change the job title without even knowing me that well.
So, my question is, what exactly is my NOC category, and if there's any way to secure my application....
Thank you
