Hey there,

So my girlfriend and I have been together for 3 years via long distance relationship (yes, we do plan on getting married some day). We are both Nexus card holders and we visit each other about once a month for a week or so at a time. I am Canadian (born and raised in Ontario) and she is American. She is 21, I am 19. We have been talking about her moving here for quite awhile but have been waiting for her to graduate from University first. We are hoping for her to move next summer but are unsure of what to apply for and the process. We have done research and read MANY different options but don't know what we qualify for.

In approximately one year we want to be living together here. She would like to come to Canada so we can start our lives together. She hasn't looked into jobs yet but is set on wanting to work here in Canada.

SO my main question is.. what do we apply for and how? Any sort of information helps.. thanks!

She could go to school in Canada. Like maybe do her masters and after you live in common law for 1 year you can apply.

She could even move to study French even though you probably don't live in Quebec. The thing is you guys have to live 1 year together and then you can apply which will take a minimum of 1 year and a half from the moment you move in together.

She doesn't have real work experience in her field so it's unlikely she will get a job without having a work permit.

Check if she qualifies for express entry (unlikely but she might, there is a tool to calculate points, she needs like 420 crs at the moment, assume she will get the maximum grade for the English test)

Other than that if you really love her, go get her a nice ring. Maybe you feel like you are too young to get married but again If you love her, that might be your only option to bring her to Canada.

Realistically speaking since she most likely won't qualify for EE:

Is either she goes to school in Canada and establish common law or she comes in as a visitor and stays for 1 year and establish common law(she won't be able to work, she would need to request an extension) or the ring. Since you have done so much research you probably know this already. Many couples have been where you are. Don't waste too much time, don't let this break the relationship and make a decision.
