Are you good? What's going on?
Hello Everyone,

Can anyone help me please ?

I submitted my PhD in 2015 in India and got it awarded in 2017. However immediately after my submission in 2015, I became eligible and started working as a PostDoc in India and two years later was awarded my Ph.D degree.

Now when I am creating my express entry profile, it says “Date you first become qualified to practice in this profession”. Should it be 2015 or 2017. The day I started working or the day I was awarded my Ph.D degree.

If I mention 2015, the day I started working, will it be considered as misrepresentation by IRCC since I was awarded my PhD in 2017. I would really be grateful if anyone can help me out from this tricky situation.

Thanks
Archana

Hi Archana, as per my understanding date should be 2017 when degree was awarded to you! However, other members can share their views as well and you may consult with others!

It should be when you are actually awarded your degree.

So does starting work somewhere in itself is not eligibility to work in that profession (as per CIC). So what happens to my work experience that I got prior to being my degree awarded

Work experience should be considered based on your Master degree

Can you suggest how CIC treats the work experience acquired before the degree being awarded. As per you, For CIC I am qualified when I got my degree awarded and as per the company I was working with, submission of my degree was enough.
Its tad confusing

I was working as a Post Doc (for which PhD is the minimum qualification not only in India but I think all over the world). They accepted me bcz they usually hire folks who have submitted PhD. I am wondering why CIC does not accept that as eligibility.

now someone will finish his degree today and will get his degree awarded say after 10 years. Then in that case what will happen to all his 10 years of work experience all this while

In this scenario ur date will be 2015 and u should have supporting documents from your university with same date.
I have two letters from my University

One that says I submitted my PhD in 2015
Second that says I was awarded PhD in 2017

My work experience is from 2015-2017

this is where it becomes tricky and confusing

is it 2015 or 2017 ( the day I became first eligible to practice in this profession)

What does cic says about the work experience? What you mean by submitted degree ? Work experience can be considered but the education will be still 2017 as it is actual date you got your degree.

No, education was completed in 2015 only university awarded degree in 2017 which is usually happened.
