Help help help....WES did'nt recognize India's top ranked institute...what to do

Hi all

I hold a PGDM degree from XLRI (One of India's top 5 MBA institutes) and I sent my educational transcripts and degree in prescribed manner to WES for assessment.

And just now, I received my report. While they recognized my bachelor's degree from Thapar, but for my Master's they mentioned "Two years of post-secondary study at a non-recognized institution; The credential is not comparable to a completed Canadian education credential"

How is that possible? How can they not recognize India's top ranked institute XLRI, while I have seen them providing equivalency status from small small institutes of India.

Guys, please advise what to do?

What is the length of your MBA?

Mine was 1.5 year and WES assessed it as "Post-graduation diploma" along with my "4-year bachelor's degree".

It was 20 months full time regular course like any IIM course. One of my friends from IIM got assessment as equivalent to 2-years Canada MBA (same for IMT Ghaziabad), so when the course curriculum is same, duration is same, degree certificate is same, then how can XLRI is not recognized while others even local colleges are.

Please advise what can I do? It will lower my score by 40 points from 473 to 433

I remember someone had a similar issue and they wrote WES an email requesting them to reconsider their decision. Probably also provided an explanation that their Institute was recognized by their Country etc. I also think WES re-evaluated and changed their decision. Maybe give that a try.

I would also suggest you to write them an e-mail explaining the situation. Hopefully, they will reconsider.

Does your XLRI degree certificate says "approved by AICTE" and Institution Status is "Recognized" on WES report? If yes, then you may ask WES to reevaluate.

You know XLRI is a premier institute in India. IF WES has no data of XLRI how are they going to access your credential. :'(

You escalate, write to WES, XLRI and check the response you get.

No doubt XLRI is top institute. Not sure if the issue is with cat vs xat institute or college vs university. You may check with them why XLRI isn't recognized. Send them url of AICTE approved college list.

I don't think it is cat vs xat, as long as it is recognized by AICTE. And I am hoping that it's an error on their part and they correct it.
Could you brief like what you put as query? and did you put your query in their 'contact us' mail or on phone? I tried calling them but they put me on hold for half hour and disconnected. Didn't expect this from them.

Please check whether your institution is available in the list given by WES on approved list of institutions. Its available on WES web site country wise. Your institution probably not in the list. The reason may be NEW institution or does not have ACCREDITATION or AFFILIATION. This usually need to be done by institution not the student after completion of certain years. You may request your institution authority regarding this and they may do needful. But its a long process. Best way to check this before admission. All the best.

Don't be surprised and assume XLRI is known the world over. You are grossly mistaken

It is not MIT, Harvard, Oxford....

For your info even IIT, IIMs are not known to many countries in the world and do not fall even in first 100 best rated list of institutions .

Without debating these institutions, their prominence, excellence,

you focus on getting your credential assessed by explaining to WES. Hope you agree
