Hi !!

I did my four year training in electrical engineering as an apprentice in defence force and was awarded a diploma certificate issued by Govt. of India, Ministry of education in 1990. I am a retiree now and am planning to apply for PR by using Smplifid Appl Procs but my immigration agent (WWICS) informed me that this diploma is not recognised by the canadian authorites. Is there any way out so that I can make my application for PR.

Please be kind enough to guide me a little.

Sir,
There are different categories where you can apply for Canadian immigration.
1. Skilled worker
2. Provincial Nominee
3. Investors, entrepreneurs and self-employed persons
4. Quebec-selected skilled workers
5. Sponsoring your family

I dont know which category do you want to choose. Check this internet link and it will answer most of your questions.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/index.asp

I think you would have to go through the skilled worker category. Try the self assessment tool on the cic website.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/assess/index.asp

Just answer some questions there and it will show you your score. If you get 67 or more points then you qualify. I hope this helps.
Cheers. :)

Hi friend,

Thanks a ton for your prompt and kind reply. I planned to apply under skilled workers class. I could score more than 67 marks using the self assessment guide using cic.gc.ca. I had selected 'others' from the name of the institution drop down menu and the result was displayed showing me eligible to apply. But my agent (WWICS in my case) said that the canadian embassy at new delhi is not recognising my diploma. However, three of my friends holding same diploma have successfully raised an application for PR under skilled workers class at new delhi and have been given the file numbers. The question is that will they be denied PR (Skilled category) at the time of final processing of their application or the embassy is serious enough to have checked out the recognition of this diploma certificate before accepting the application and issuing file number to them. Their application was lodged in oct 2006 using all details and not a simplified one

Regards

there should be a system in India where you can get your diploma's credentials checked. You might have to pay a fee to do so. I did my MBA and had to get its credentials checked from Canada. I paid Cdn $ 450 and got full 25 points for education. You might want to check it with the embassy.
