I need some advice - I am on a valid study permit until 6/2017. My children had visitor permits from my previous study visa which expired on 9/25/13. well, between moving from BC to alberta, having a baby, and starting my PhD this september I forgot to renew them!!! Does anyone have any ideas of what I am supposed to do? Online it looks like I have to pay 200 dollars to restore their status... They are 4 and 6 years old.

Restoration is the only way unless you can flagpole with them (go to the border, leave the country and re-enter).

I can flagpole - but I am concerned because my son is school-age. The school said he was allowed to study on MY visa - I am planning on visiting family in the US in a couple of weeks - do you think I should just wait and flagpole? I don't want them to get barred from coming in - my third child is a Canadian citizen and my partner is as well.

EDIT: myself and my two older children are US nationals

Ok I called immigration - they really couldn't give me any information about anything.

Can I have opinions about this?

I am leaving Canada for my kids to visit grandparents on Dec 6th - this is within the 90 period after the kids' visitor records expire. It could take that long for the kids' new visitor records to be created. Should I apply online NOW or wait for the border-crossing to get them new permits? The immigration staff seemed to thing they could be refused entry either way!
Also, how will that work for my son's schooling? He is in grade 1. I was told by his school he was allowed to study under MY permit which is valid until 2017.

Yes, they could be refused entry either way but to be honest, I don't think that you will have any problems taking the kids to the US and back in December, given that you have valid status until 2017, a Canadian child and a Canadian partner.

I'm unsure what you are asking regarding your son's schooling. If you mean him coming back in to Canada and getting a new visitor record, it won't affect his schooling.

Are you and your partner common-law or married? If so, you should really consider sponsorship as soon as you can.

Hi missMozart21, I have the same case as yours, the difference is that my husband and me are on work permit (no one of us is Canadian) and want to ask how did you solve it? did you cross the border? and what did they say to you?
another question:
Can I do the border_crossing and if they refused to let my kid enter, ask them on the border to apply for the restoration (I can fill the application and take with me all papers they may need to see)
please, I need an advise
