Help: application in home country?

Hi everyone,

I wanted to ask for help to decide what procedure to opt for to apply for a visitor visa. I'm a moroccan international student currently residing in Italy. I want to apply for a visitor visa to visit my friend in Canada sometime between June-July. The processing time in Morocco is SIGNIFICANTLY shorter (31 days) than here in Italy (116 days), and with the latter it would be impossible to go to Canada within my desired dates as the processing will take at least another 4 months.

I saw that doing an online application will very likely redirect me to a VAC in Italy (since my residence address is here), so I am considering travelling home to Morocco to submit a paper application there.

My main issue is, I am not sure what the usual timeline is between the moment you submit your application, then your biometric data (if they are done separately), the time you receive a letter requesting you submit your passport, and finally receiving the final decision and collecting your passport. Since I have a few commitments in Italy, the longest I can stay is a couple of weeks, after which I will need my passport to go back to Italy.

Should I go forward with this approach? Is there any way to submit my visa application and biometrics in morocco and ask them to let me submit my passport in Italy? Would that impact the overall processing times? Please let me know if any of you have had similar experiences applying from a country outside that of your residence, or any advice on how to handle this situation.

Many thanks!
