Hello everyone,

First of all thanks for reading my concern. I have completed bachelor of arts in accounting from canada and i have been working in post graduate open work permit for last 2 years in canada within the same company and same position. My job title is accounts payable clerk which is skills category C (NOC 1431), I have tried to change my job title to accounts payable analyst which is NOC 1212. From the NOC list they use the same NOC code for accounts payable analyst and accounts payable supervisor. My duties are not limited, on a daily basis i am performing some duties that match to the other NOC code 1212. So i have email to NOC-CNP @ WORKINGCANADA.GC.CA. I asked them why they use the same NOC code for accounts payable analyst and supervisor? is there any difference? and i have asked them an experienced accounts payable clerk can be qualify for an analyst position? I have listed some of the duties that i m performing on regular basis

However, they replied to me my duties still could fall under NOC 1431, and as i have the education for NOC 1212, So there would be 51% rule would apply for my situation. They said I am in the better situation to decide which NOC code suits best and said simply put 51% duties from the selected NOC.

Now my question is how would be look like my reference letter? i got an reference letter from payroll with my job title (accounts payable clerk 1431), duration, salary and benefits. And from payroll they said i need to have the job responsibilites reference letter from my manager. Because they dont know what are my job duties are. So now, it should be ok if i simply attach a reference letter from my manager and include 51% duties from NOC 1212 and 49 % from 1431 ? Even my job title is accounts payable clerk on the reference letter? Should I also attach the email i have received from NOC-CNP @ WORKINGCANADA.GC.CA? any suggestion please and thanks a million.

It is unlikely that your experience will be considered above Skill Level C. My suggestion is to either try for a promotion, get a new job, or.... Look into the Provincial Nominee Program for the province where you live/went to school...

Hi there,

My title is also Accounts Payable Clerk which falls under skill level C. But my duties were actually falling under bookkeeper duties which is skill level B. I talked to my company and told them if they write my position as an Accounts Payable Clerk in the reference letter, this is going to alarm the visa officers and asked them if they can put bookkeeper as my title in the letter. I printed out the NOC description for the Accounting Technician and bookkeeper position, they looked at the duties listed under and agreed that I perform those duties. Long story short they were willing to write Accounting Bookkeeper as my title in the letter and my duties were matching it. So I would suggest you check out the "Bookkeeper" NOC code and see if it applies to you.

Good luck!

Hi thanks for your info. I just checked the job duties for bookkeeper and honestly 60% directly match my job responsibilites. I am sure my company would not change my job title to bookkeeper on the reference letter. So could you please tell me what other option would be available for me? I am the boss without a title :(:):):) what if I include 60% job duties from bookkeeper and 40% job duties from the NOC 1212? Even through my title fall into skills category C?

I am not an expert but what I have read and heard is what actually matters is your duties not your title. I think as long as your duties match with the NOC code you are claiming for, you should be Ok. But just to be sure, I would get my application reviewed by an immigration lawyer or consultant before I send it. They can look at the letter and make sure it all makes sense. I also got my application reviewed once I prepared it. It is not that expensive and since your case is a little bit different it can be wiser to get a professional to have a look at it.

thanks for your help!! I think i will make a list what i m doing on a daily basis and I will match which NOC describes best on my duties and then i will just use the selected NOC on the application even my title is accounts payable clerk on the reference letter. I will also go to a lawyer to review my paper before i submit. And I will attach a explanation why I am using bookkeeper/ analyst NOC on the application letter when actually my current position is accounts payable clerk.

Thanks once again all... any other suggestion would be highly appreciated. :)
