Hello experts

I came to Canada last month on spouse open work permit and currently not eligible for OHIP. My husband is in Canada on PGWP and has an OHIP.
We are planning on having a baby in couple of months so i am looking into private health insurance in the meantime.
Can anyone please guide on a couple of private insurances that will cover the cost of baby delivery in Canada?

Thanks for your time

Private insurance isn't an option for you.

The only insurance available has to be purchased before you get pregnant. It's too late to get private insurance once you are already pregnant.

BTW - If your spouse has a job with an employer for at least since months, then I thought you qualified for OHIP too. But I may be mistaken about that. I would recommend you check with Service Canada.

You may want to update your first post. Your first post indicates you are expecting a baby in a couple of months.

Yes.

I'm on a PGWP, have a full-time permanent job, and my wife has a SOWP. I was able to get coverage for both given my job. We had to bring:

My employment letter. This has to say specifically that it's a job in Ontario, full-time, and permanent (or for at least six months)
Proof of address. We brought our lease agreement with both names on it.
Marriage certificate. I had to translate it as it wasn't in English/French.
Filled forms for both of us.

We got coverage until the end of our current work permits.

Thank you ! When i called service Ontario, they told me that my spouse on SOWP has to be employed full time for 6-months to quality for it. May i know which service Ontario you went to ?

That is if your spouse is a citizen or a PR. If your spouse is on a WP or SP and you are on an OWP you will qualify for OHIP until their PGWP expires as long as they are employed full-time in Ontario and that their job is scheduled to last 6 months or longer. It is important to specify the status of your spouse to the Service Ontario employee. It looks like the PGWP expires in December and don’t know if anyone has confirmed whether 3 month wait list has returned but that may lead you with minimal OHIP coverage months if you get pregnant soon.
