Health Insurance, Drivers license - Move to different province after Landing

Health Insurance -

If I need to go to different province after landing how can the health insurance be taken care of ? I am planning to land in Toronto,ON(More convenient for us) and after that move to Calgary,Alberta. But since the Health Insurance in ON takes 3 months and if I apply for it, do I need to reapply for Insurance after moving to Alberta again? Can some one explain the dynamics of this situation and suggest what is the right thing to do.

Drivers License -

If I take drivers license in Toronto and then move to Alberta,then will this license hold? or do I need to re-apply for DL again in Alberta?
I have U.S Drivers license currently. What documents are required for getting a initial drivers license? do I need to take with me my driving record/statement from my Auto insurance company?

On the medical insurance I don't know but on the driver license I can share my brother in law experience:

1.- To have your driver license take your driving records from the DMV, go to the office in Toronto and exchange your US driver license, you won;t see that one again, they will give you a new one from Toronto, for him it was a 20 minutes process.

2.- Take your insurance records and search for one insurance company who give you the best rate, and show them your records, for first timers usually they want to charge you more money, that's why your insurance records came handy.

Also why are you landing in Toronto first? are you in USA? I check the flights and from USA to Calgary is cheaper than landing in Toronto and then take another plane to Calgary.

When you move from ON to AB, you do need to apply for AB health insurance and you do need to change your ON drivers license for an AB drivers license.

If you are not living in ON, just passing through there quickly on your way to AB, it would be better for you to wait until you are in AB because AB health insurance will cover you from day 1 if you are moving from overseas but if you are moving from ON, you wait 2-3 months.

Sorry, I'm not answering this question but rather asking one.

Since British DL are exchangeable in Alberta so you are not required to take the test again; could someone tell me how about British DLs which have points on it? Would AB still exchange them?

They may not know the license has points on it and they might not check it either. The drivers licenses in AB are handled by registries which are privately owned and although they are all supposed to follow the same rules, it depends on the staff. My German coworkers have all gone to exchange their licenses and each one has a different story of how that went. The luckiest one was given a Canadian motorcycle license on his license and practically everything else he asked for.
