Hi i am canadian and my wife is american. we are living in the UK and my wife has recently become pregnant. We do not want to stay in the UK and would like to move to Canada ASAP. Are there any provinces that will allow us to have health care from day1 so that she can get her necessary treatment?

We prefer Calgary, Vancouver , or Toronto as places to move to.

I am sorry if i should know some of this but i was born in Canada but parents moved us to the states when i was just 2 years old!

So any advice on what if anything the canadian citizen needs to do from abroad to allow the spouse(of over 2 years) to be allowed to work, live, and obtain healthcare immediately upon entry would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks

Your best bet would be Alberta but first day health care with a wife who is on visitor status still might not be easy. You have to sponsor her for PR but that takes a while and you will most likely not be through before your child is born. AB health has given health care in the past to spouses who are in the process of being sponsored and I remember one in particular who said that it played a role that as she entered Canada, she and her husband asked for a visitor records because they were planning on sponsorship. She was given 1 year so with a 1 year visa, AB health said they would consider her a resident (a person who lives in Canada more than 6 months a year) in regards to health care.

In any case, when you enter, ask for a visitor records for 1 year stating your intention to sponsor your spouse. You should start working on filling out the sponsorship forms now because it's a bit of work. If you bring them with you, that may further convince immigration that you are serious about the sponsorship. After entering Canada, you can go and ask about health care.
