Hello! I have got an open work permit on basis of my spouse who is currently working in Saskatchewan. During my VISA process I found out that I am pregnant. Will I be able to apply for my own health card on arrival to Saskatchewan and get maternity benefits? I came to know that I won't be able to have my own private insurance now? What shall be done in this case if I wish to give birth in Canada and reduce my hospital charges? Please help.

You would get coverage 2-3 months after arrival. You would only qualify for maternity payments after you give birth if you have worked 600 hours in the year before the birth of your child. Maternity leave payments are only a fraction of your actual salary so you need to plan financially for the reduced income.

Thank you so much. I have a doubt whether I would get health coverage even if I don't get a job so soon and will be financially dependent on my husband? My husband is working as a skilled worker (NOC A) and paying taxes there.
