Having two jobs on a work permit

Hello everyone

I have a question about work permits (the amount of stress this stuff puts me through is unreal!) I am here in Toronto from the UK working as an RN. I was on an open work permit which was only valid for a year. During that time I got two jobs, one is part time and the other is just casual relief work. I've received my new work permit which is employer specific. It is for my part time job. As far as I know CIC won't give you a work permit without an LMO, but the criteria for those are RIDICULOUS. They wouldn't give me one for my casual job since it isn't guaranteed hours.

My question is this: Since this job is just casual, can I continue to work there under this work permit? I know this maybe seems like a stupid question but I love both of these jobs. I find it ridiculous the number of hoops I have had to jump through to stay here. I actually WANT to work and pay tax in this country and I'm a nurse, a job which people are always banging on about always needing staffing.

I'm just wondering if there is a way to get a permit for both jobs or something that would allow me to work at both without having to go through all this LMO nonsense? ARGH!

1. You got lucky, HRSDC is not supposed to approve LMOs for PT work.
2. And no you can't work at your casual job as the TWP you have is employer specific.

Let me ask you a question. If the UK allowed foreign nurses to come into the UK and work for half the pay of a British nurse, do you think that would be fair?

How many hospitals would employ British nurses if they cost twice as much?

Hence the need for LMO's. This is to ensure that employers are firstly not taking away jobs that Canadians can do and secondly are not exploiting foreign workers by paying lower wages.

This also ensures that you, as a foreign worker get the same legal rights as a Canadian worker.

As PMM states, you got lucky, LMO's are almost never given for part time workers.
