Hi,

I am Canadian citizen, and I am marrying a American woman. She will be coming to Canada with me, and we will be filing an spousal application.

To avoid the obvious perils of showing up to the border with her as a visitor with all of her belongings, we are having them shipped to Canada in a moving truck.

Is this okay to do? Should the stuff be put in my name or her name?

Thanks

Sure - you can ship them. Depending on how much you're sending, expect to pay duty.

I mailed myself my things. Keep in mind, it was all small items, no furniture and no kitchen items.

I addressed it to myself. Since it was all personal items of little to no real value, I didn't have to pay duty on it.

Agreed. If you're sending small bundles of clothes. You'll be fine. If you send a container with any computer equipment, any personal household electronics, any furniture, any camping or sport equipment, etc. - expect to pay duty.
