I am asking this for a friend.

Can I go home to Philippines when I have only 5 months left on my work permit.

I have to go home because my mother is sick.

I have heard it may be a problem because I have less then six months left on my work permit.

Of course you can travel with 5 months left on your Work Permit. I went on vacation for two weeks 2 months before mine expired and there wasn't an issue. I went to the states a month before expiry too and they just told me I had to be back in Canada a week before the expiration date, rather than the usual 3 or 6 months they stamp me for.

I have a friend who traveled back home last april 2014 and his work permit expiration is sept 5,2014 thats like 5 months left. he was able to comeback despite it was a midst of moratorium. But i have known also that time the there some worker whose work permit expiring in 3 months were refused in the port of entry.
