hi there all,
I have just been accepted for PR, and have been told the next process will take roughly 8 months to complete, if something happened at work i.e. i left, or they decided they didnt want me anymore, can i change employer? or will this affect my pr application? just to verify we applied in september for pr and got accepted a week or so ago , now weve been accepted but have to go through the medicals etc.. will a job change be allowed or will it affect my pr staus?
thanks all for taking time to read and hopefully reply

You are not saying what class you are applying under. If you are for example being sponsored by your employer through a PNP, you can lose your application if you change jobs. If you are applying yourself under CEC, it will not matter. If you are applying under FSW with AEO or work permit as a qualifier, you should not change. If you are applying under FSW under the 29 list, you are ok.

hi again im applying under fsw with bc pnp, thats what immigration consultant said. she seems to think its ok to change but dont think shes 100 percent sure, as long as new employer gives a job offer, hope im not put in a position to have to change jobs but would be a relief if options are there.

If you are applying under BC PNP, then ask them. Some time ago, I asked AINP a similar question and was told that if a person being sponsored by an employer under PNP at any time before getting PR leaves that employer or loses their job, their PNP nomination and PR application are gone with the wind.

And by the way, it is not possible to apply "under fsw with bc pnp". They are two different programs.

If you apply under FSW, that means 67 or more points and either an occupation on the list of 29 favourites or a job offer. Using a work permit as a job offer also means that you have to stay in the same job and your work permit must remain valid throughout your processing but FSW has nothing to do with BC or BC PNP.

If you apply under BC PNP, you apply for your nomination to the PNP and when you get it, you apply for PR. There are various classes under BC PNP needing different things but most common if you are working is that you are sponsored by your employer.

thats what my immigration lady told me, but yes it sounds as if its the bc pnp as we have had to apply for nomination i believe that was accepted and now we have just sent everything to buffalo she said the next step is 5-6months down the line is the medicals. Seem a bit igronant not knowing but i have just left it in immigration consultants hands until now.

Right. With BC PNP, definitely ask them what is their policy on changing employment. If they say absolutely not, you should not and if your employer wants to lay you off, ask them if they can make it a temporary lay-off so you will have a chance to keep your application running.

This was obviously an employer supported application through BC PNP. If you leave your job with your sponsoring employer, they can revoke their support of your nomination and you are no longer a PNP applicant, and not eligible for PR in that category.

Now, on rare occassions, BC PNP has been willing to continue the nomination based on extenuating circumstances and with the full support of the new employer. But this is not an easy thing to do.

I would not recommend changing jobs until after you are a PR as doing so beforehand puts you at risk of losing your nomination. If you really, REALLY want to change jobs and have VERY good reasons for doing so, speak to BC PNP first to find out what the new employer would have to do in order for BC PNP to continue the nomination.
