Have current OWP, looking into options for extended stay

Hi all

I'm a 31-year old Australian currently into the 2nd part of my 2-year OWP, issued 2015 (therefore unable to renew for second participation). For the first year of my OWP I worked as a live-in nanny with a family (still living with them but no longer a nanny, part-time babysitting only), and I am DESPERATE to stay in Canada & have been extensively exhausting my options.

Although I held a good government job in Australia, I marginally failed high school & have done less than 6 months university level study; therefore making me in-admissable for FSWP or SWP. I am looking into Live-in Care Givers program, however I believe my failing high school rules me out with that - I have looked into doing study to achieve my high school certificate online but no luck. Is there any way I can prove to CIC that I am intelligent and worth allowing to stay in Canada without that piece of paper; or an alternative to get it that is recognized by CIC?

And if anyone has any leads on alternatives, at least so I can submit an application for PR to extend my stay/ability to work in Canada pending approval of PR application? I'd just like an extra year or two (Ha, famous last words...)

Based on the information you've provided, I don't see any obvious path at this time for PR.

If you have at least one year of full time paid work experience as a nanny, you could look into having another family hire you as a full time caregiver. They will need to go through the LMIA process before you can apply for a work permit which takes time and effort. However it should be doable provided you have one full time year of work experience. Once you have worked in this new job for two years full time, you may qualify to apply for PR.

The way PR works these days, you have to meet the requirements and be selected because you have enough points or nominated by a province before you can qualify to extend your work permit. It's not just a matter of submitting an application/profile - you have to be selected. FSW/Express Entry is definitely out for you - as is Canadian Experience Class since your work experience here is unskilled. I can't think of any provincial program that would work for you either. Long story short, I think PR isn't feasible for you at this time.

The only real option I see is finding an employer who is willing to offer you a job and who is able to obtain an approved LMIA so that you can apply for a new work permit. Otherwise I'm really not seeing other possibilities based on your education and experience.

Also curious; how much does being in a relationship with a Canadian citizen help? And would getting married help with obtaining PR...? I was aware of the new points system, and my understanding was that being married/in a common law relationship with a Canadian citizen perhaps does help you score somewhat higher, but not anything significant.

Being married to a Citizen or a PR or being common law (minimum 12 months cohabiting) points are not relevant as is all about your spouse /partner sponsoring you assuming they qualify to do so and showing all the required documentation for a genuine relationship.

Having a Canadian spouse/common-law partner doesn't do anything for an EE application. It does allow you to apply for PR through sponsorship.

Being married to a Citizen or a PR or being common law (minimum 12 months cohabiting) points are not relevant as is all about your spouse /partner sponsoring you assuming they qualify to do so and showing all the required documentation for a genuine relationship.

No, you do not require a 12 month relationship if you are married.

Depends on the province for PNP. Each province has a different program.

This won't help you with either Canadian Experience Class or Federal Skilled Worker / Express Entry

Also, does anyone know how strictly they adhere to the "must have an average of 30 hours p/w for 9 months" before you can apply for sponsorship? My employer is doing everything they can to get me 30 hours p/week ASAP but it isn't happening immediately... and I only have 8 months left of my OWP.

Has anyone had any experience with this?
