No problem. Happy to help.
I assumed the baja applied to everyone with a job...but I could be wrong. Definitely his immigration office will be able to tell him and it's not too early.
For the marriage certificate he just goes to the lawyer that married you and asks for a new one. That takes a couple days.
Are you in Ontario? I know that he needs to have had his license for 2 years in Cuba for him to be able to get a license in Ontario. If you're in another province, I don't know the rules.
I'm not sure what an AOR is...is that them telling me when they received my file? I don't think I got that officially. Perhaps the date popped up on the CIC website eventually. Or maybe it was in an email they sent me (there was a spelling mistake on his police certificate so they contacted me about that). I'm can't remember how I know when it arrived...but I do, so that seems to speak to me having received some sort of notification at some point ;) Generally it takes a couple weeks to arrive.
great....okay will discuss the baja with him....marriage certificate won't be a problem then...it's right in Matanzas....oh yes I know about the 2 year rule and I am in Ontario....we need to produce a letter saying he has been driving for two years and no accidents then he can just do a road test and switch over.....not worrying about that now.......

When you listed his employer what was it?
My hubby quit his job 3 weeks before we married.
He worked security for the "cadecas" and if they knew he was married to a "Yuma" and still working it would have been bad, and they def wouldn't have issued him his baja. He received his letter when he quit, however it took 4 months to get the official signature on it so that he will be able to get his PRE

Yes, baja is needed, regardless of job type. Note that what is required for PVE/PRE can vary from province to province. Best bet is for your spouse to go to the immigration office and find out what is required. However, he may want to wait a week or two. I believe the Cuban national assembly meets on Monday and rumour has it they may make some announcements on the relaxation of requirements for the PRE for Cubans married to foreigners. This was originally talked about at the beginning of May with the Cuban government announcing that details would be forthcoming. While I highly doubt the exit permits will be eliminated, the Cuban government may make them a bit less of a hassle to obtain. Fingers crossed!
thanks lambchop.....wow....so much info....and what a pain in the a**......

So I imagine his actual employer was ministry of health.

What a pain in the arse indeed, KJG!

It will really help if your husband can look into the baja requirements early. It's not atypical that obtaining the baja can be a bit of a process. It took a few months for a couple of friends of ours to get theirs, and they worked for different organizations. My husband is looking into the requirements for his baja now - even though we are still waiting for stage 1 approval (come on CIC, open the file already!) - and it looks like his request will take at least a couple of months to process and require a number of different signatures.

Pain in the arse indeed!!! We had our fill with the CIC paperwork and now this... :(

Relax klg.... Lol
He should be speaking with his "HR" and with the immigration office to find out about his baja.
In my opinion depending how the files are going in Havana, he should look into quitting his job sooner rather than later, the bajas can often take longer than the PRE, politics jealousy etc have a lot to do with how long it takes to get the signatures.

Veradis, your husband got the Visa on the same day he had the interview???I was looking at you case progress and saw the same date for both.
Yeah, I think it happens quite often, interview in the morning, visa in the afternoon.

Although to be honest we didn't take the visa that day, he only had a month and a half left on his medical so we opted to get a new medical and come back for the visa when the medical results came back March 22. If his medical had expired after he had the visa, we would have had to start over from the beginning. And obviously, since we're still waiting for the baja, we made the right choice to be cautious. The stats bar didn't have that option though Visa offered/Visa given back until a month later/Visa received so I just went with the easier way of stating it.
We got married Feb 2011...Valentine's Day to be exact :D but didn't get our application in until August because his visa got lost in transit between two offices for several months. Basically our Canadian stuff was a breeze...it's the Cuban paperwork that has caused us hassles!

KJG, my husband has had his driver's licence for a number of years now. I'm aware about the letter, but do you know who needs to write it? Gracias.

A friend of ours only got his passport after he and his wife filed their application. He got his passport shortly after they filed and he had no issues or delays with the visa processing. He had his passport at the ready for when he received his passport request from the Havana VO before issuing the visa, and I think that's what really mattered.

However, you could always err on the side of caution and send a photocopy of your husband's passport to the VO in the meantime.
