Hello all,

First of all, I must thank you all of you for being so helpful in this forum. It's great to see people genuinely helping others with any questions.

I have been in Canada for about 7 years and plan to apply for CEC immigration in first half of August. However, I've started prep for application. Following are few questions I have so far. I'll appreciate if you can kindly provide your thoughts on these:

- My 1 year of full time employment (post grad) will be completed by end of July. When do you guys suggest that I get letter from my employer? I'm expecting a promotion next month :) Are we supposed to get a letter AFTER we complete our 1 year or its fine even if I get it now? I'm assuming Immigration officers look at the work permit date for one year of employment.

- The application says we need employment letters for past 3 years. How critical is this? What if I employer does not agree to provide a detailed letter but a normal record of employment?

-I'm an Analyst right now (might be promoted to Consultant next month). I believe both of these titles and responsibilities align with 2171 NoC skill level A. I just got my IELTS: overall 7.5 (listening 8.5, writing 6.5, speaking 8, reading 7.5). Would it satisfy CEC requirements?

-I have completed my undergraduate from Canada. However, now CEC does not care about the university degree to be done in Canada. Is my information correct? I won't need any documentation from university? Do I need to have a transcript etc?

-What exactly those letter of recommendations mean in the checklist? Would you kindly point me to any samples?

- I have moved quite a lot in all of the last 7 years. We have to provide residential address history since we came to Canada. What's your recommendation in this regard? I have tried to get my Credit report but it did not list any history. I am trying my best to get all addresses lol

Would you happen to know of any amazing Immigration lawyer for CEC in Toronto? I do not want them to do my application. However, I wouldn't mind paying $ for couple of hours to get my application reviewed before I send it over to the big daddy (Immigration officer lol).

Thank you in advance for your help.

Congrats on your upcoming promotion! :) Give your supervisor a heads up about needing a reference letter, but get it done after your first year, just to be safe.

- The application says we need employment letters for past 3 years. How critical is this? What if I employer does not agree to provide a detailed letter but a normal record of employment?
How critical is this? I was going to ask you the same question. Are you claiming CEC eligibility based on your current job? You should need only one reference letter if that's the case, but lets see what other members have to say on this. If any of your employers refuse to provide a reference letter the best you can do is keep a record of what steps you've taken to try and get one, and include those along with a cover letter in your application, and hope you get a very understanding officer.

Absolutely! You're in the clear here.

-I have completed my undergraduate from Canada. However, now CEC does not care about the university degree to be done in Canada. Is my information correct? I won't need any documentation from university? Do I need to have a transcript etc?
It's great that you have a degree, but you're right to say it will have no impact on your application. Nowhere in the document checklist they mention transcripts, but I think it's not a bad idea to include a copy of your diploma to assure your processing officer your work experience was done on a PGWP, AFTER receiving your diploma.

-What exactly those letter of recommendations mean in the checklist? Would you kindly point me to any samples?
Sorry, what? You mean the guidelines? Those are details your reference letter need to cover. You can show it to your supervisor to help him write a proper reference letter for you.

- I have moved quite a lot in all of the last 7 years. We have to provide residential address history since we came to Canada. What's your recommendation in this regard? I have tried to get my Credit report but it did not list any history. I am trying my best to get all addresses lol
All I can say is try your best to find all your previous addresses.
Good luck with your application process :)

Awesome! nice to hear about promotion. i agree with poster above. Date the reference letter after 1 year of employment. This avoids confusion later. You don't want them to think you didn't finish your job and get a refusal letter.

- The application says we need employment letters for past 3 years. How critical is this? What if I employer does not agree to provide a detailed letter but a normal record of employment?
Depends. Critical if it falls under the NOC you are applying to. Or any post-graduate job that are skilled I believe. Maybe not so much like a part-time store clerk job. If employer doesn't want to write an employment letter...I'm not sure. Maybe this forum topic helps http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/-t122673.0.html

You need at least a 6. So you pass the language requirement.

-I have completed my undergraduate from Canada. However, now CEC does not care about the university degree to be done in Canada. Is my information correct? I won't need any documentation from university? Do I need to have a transcript etc?
As from the new requirements, no need to provide education information. Just make sure you wrote down in the forms where you studied and how long you studied.

-What exactly those letter of recommendations mean in the checklist? Would you kindly point me to any samples?
I believe you're talking about the same employment reference letter. here's a forum that helps http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/-t47414.0.html but double check in your checklist that all information they need is in the letter your employer writes for you

- I have moved quite a lot in all of the last 7 years. We have to provide residential address history since we came to Canada. What's your recommendation in this regard? I have tried to get my Credit report but it did not list any history. I am trying my best to get all addresses lol
I've moved quite a bit myself, and I know it's hard to remember all the addresses one has lived. Do your best to gather all addresses. suggestions: past bills, letters, rent leases, other records, etc.

Would you happen to know of any amazing Immigration lawyer for CEC in Toronto? I do not want them to do my application. However, I wouldn't mind paying $ for couple of hours to get my application reviewed before I send it over to the big daddy (Immigration officer lol).
i live in toronto too, but i did everything myself. i just asked some people i know to go over my application a few times. dont know any lawyer sorry.

Thank you in advance for your help.

The letter is your key piece of evidence documenting your employment experience. The letter must be written after your 1 year - the VO will consider the experience up to the date the letter is written, not after.
