Hi,

1. What's your complete profile? Include percentage of 10th, 11th, stream, years of passing and the type of work experience, position (full time/part time) etc. you have.
2. Usually entry to most certificate/ diploma programmes in any of the colleges requires 12th grade qualification, but certain colleges MAY accept you after your 11th grade to any particular course of your choice, where you may or may not 've relevant work experience. You need to email all colleges individually and enquire about the programme of your choice. You also need to get a minimum IELTS score of 6.0, with no bands less than 5.5 for admission to most certificate/diploma programmes.
3. Degree from open university 'll not be useful as 12th grade would have been.
4. At your stage, the best route in my opinion will be to initially join a certificate and then move on to diploma programme or if eligible apply directly to a diploma programme.
5. Here's the list of all participating recognized colleges and Universities across Canada , province wise. Start searching for the right course and contacting the respective colleges right away!
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/institutions/participants.asp

Best of luck.

HI...Sorry that I dint give enough details... I work in a BPO back office where we handle Payroll and HR related services for north America and Canada...And I have 5 - 6 years of experience..And 10th I completed in 2002 and I got 61% and 11th I Completed in 2003 (Commerce) and I took my 12th grade exams in 2004 during which I met with an accident and couldnt continue my exams...So I missed a exam and took almost 2 years break..So I dint wanted to was those years so I started working early in 2006..Thats a quick overview of my profile.. And I'm taking up my IELTS in April . I'm trying to get into centennial college in Toronto...I have tried contacting some colleges...But I don't know much about certificate programs...Will certificate programs give enough time for me to choose a Diploma program after completing? as most of the certificate programs are just 1 year and I'm not sure whether they will provide time to work and study again... Please correct if my understanding is wrong..My idea was to take some entrance exams on behalf of OSSD equivalents...And I wanted to know whether any one have ever been in this path...Thanks in advance for you time and guidance..

Hi,

Since, this will be your 1st major qualification, it would be best to go for a Bachelor's degree, but since you don't 've 12th grade... the next best thing is opting for a detailed 3 years diploma, and if you fall short on eligibility... the college may conduct either an entrance exam or give you admission into a 1 year certificate programme (again may be with an entrance) and then progress to a 2-3 years diploma in same area of study. I cannot tell clearly on the policies and the method the colleges will adopt to deal with cases such as yours. You will have to contact each and every individual colleges... their specific programme head and email them your profile.. present your case... and then the colleges will decide and tell you as to how to proceed further... Although, personally I feel, you 'll surely get admitted to colleges as you 've 11th grade + good number of work ex years...Also score good in IELTS.. minimum 6.5, with no bands less than 6.0;the more you score the better it is!

Yes, you'll 've more than enough time after completion of 1 year certificate course or any other course. As you get usually, extra upto 90 days after you complete a major course, which 'll give you more than enough time to either apply for a new study permit or PGWP.

If you get admission to direct 3 years diploma (choose preferably with co-op) then well and good... and if you get admission to a 1 year certificate programme initially..then too you can move on to the diploma programme... Best in this case 'll be if you could guarantee admission for 1 year certificate + 2-3 years diploma, in same college..in same area of study..there by you getting directly 3-4 years study permit.... (if this is possible)..and again you 'll need to talk to the colleges...

I personally don''t know or heard of anyone going this path... there was another member some time back on this forum... who was in similar situation like you...and apart from research on forum.. I think, that member consulted some reputed consultant.
I advice..you too should talk to a reputed consultant, and see what they reccomend. This way you'll get more ideas...

Best of Luck

Hi,

1. Ofcourse, there is one global consultancy providing absolutely free + quality service. Here is the link www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/international-students-b2.0/
2. so, why consultancy? Why don't not you try it yourself? -Google your college, www.canadian-universities.net/Programs/index.html
-Refer your school's 'Admission Requirement' webpage for international students.
-If in doubt, shoot emails to your school.
-Collect admission documents.
-Courier via DHL Rs. 1190
-Wait/get LOA.
-Download all visa forms at www.vfs-canada.co.in/visaapplication.html
-Collect documents and apply for Visa.

I don't know.. if it's appropriate to openly pitch for any particular consultant on this forum. Nevertheless, I personally believe CANAM & EDWISE are among the best consultants in India for students looking forward to study in Canada. There are also other known consultants at both national level and state level...

Again, even if the consultant is top rated, it's always a good idea to do personal research by sending emails and inquiring at individual colleges; presenting your profile, and see what they 've to say. You got to do the hard work too to be well informed and knowing your options from all directions... Visiting a top rated consultant 'll give you a better idea and it's upto you to continue with their services or not...

Hi tiger007,

Is a 3-year diploma better than a 2-year diploma in CHC's eyes?
Hi,

It's really difficult to say in general..and is often dependent on the applicant's profile... Sometimes..there may be no logic whatsoever for getting a visa for any particular course duration... It's like something... say, me being in dilemma whether to choose a 1 year PG certificate/diploma programme or a 2 years programme at any of the Canadian colleges... But since, personally I believe 1 year PG course 'll be enough for my profile and also, I won't be able to spend 2 years of time or money..and so..1 year course is fit for me.... Although I get the visa or not..is another matter... Because CHC won't give a damn...about what I think! ;) Similarly what may be good/ fitting for your profile may not fit others... Enfield mentioned that... One member on this forum... he got visa rejected after applying for a 1 year PG course in management after his MBA in India, but got later approved visa the 2nd time, after he applied for a 2 years PG certificate programme at an Ontario college.

So, I guess.. it really depends on your profile.

Saying this.. if you are just 12th grade pass... and looking for a first major qualification and not eligible for admission to a Bachelor's degree at any of the colleges or universities due to high percentage requirement, I personally believe... going for a 3 years detailed diploma 'll be a better option

Hi People,
As per your advise.. I tried reaching colleges by sending them emails...And most came back saying not eligible... And only 2 - 3 colleges said..Ill be eligible... So I bit confused on how to goahead...

College 1 -
Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology (SIAST) :

They said "In regards to your questions, you can apply for the Administration or HR diploma program. All students start with the Business certificate. So if accepted, you would receive 2 acceptance letters; one for the Business certificate and one for one of the diploma programs. You would also exit with both a Business certificate and Business diploma. It is a bit confusing; but you would start with the Business certificate".

"Applicants who do not possess the academic qualifications for a program may be admitted if evidence of probable success can be established through a special admission assessment. Interested individuals should still apply. Applicants are automatically considered for special admission. However, some specific admission requirements may still need to be met. Refer to the ACCUPLACER(c) cut scores and Post Secondary Success Requirements for this program below, and review additional details concerning Special Admission"

is it like 2 Diploma's and they ask only for IELTS above 6.5
PLS HELP ME UNDERSTAND IT better...Is the certificate program like an entrance exam for the diploma?? I have sent an email back, they haven't replied yet..

College 2 - Camosun College - BC - Answer for my email, whether I will be eligible - "Would you please confirm if you are also Indian national and planning on applying for study permit from India. If yes, please know that you must meet the full admission requirements in order to apply under the Student Partnership Program (SPP). Please visit Government of Canada website for more information" I just have little idea about SPP ..

"Camosun College also offers University Transfer – Business. The focus of this program is to “transfer” your credits to a university rather than completing a credential at Camosun College. This program only requires English (letter grade of “C+” or higher in British Columbia high school English 12 course or Academic IELTS 6.0" So I can transfer my 11th Grade marks as a credit???

They also asked.. Whether I had Maths in my 11th grade.. So I replied as I had Business maths (Basically a commerce student).. Now they are requesting my 11th grade transcripts... ( Please correct me if I"m wrong) Usually the transcripts are given my universities with a sealed cover..Which I cant get for 11th grade.. But I have my 12th std Mark sheet.. where for Economics, will be Absent. As I dint attend my exam due to my accident.. So here again Im confused on the transcript part how to provide that??

Please advise me on this..
P.S.And I'm gonna take IELTS on April 12th and go with a good...really good consultancy...
And my back up plan or on a worst case scenario :D if I cant get in any of the colleges till End of May... I'm gonna take up my 12th grade backlog in June (Economics) and the result will also be out in June.. And if I complete it in June will it be too late to apply for colleges and Visa for September intake?? or I can try for Dec or Jan Intake?

Thanks a lot for all your inputs people...I really need your support as my case is bit weird.. :'(

Thanks...
