Guidance needed for Immigration

Hi All,
I'm a Software Professional with 9+ years of Experience and currently working as a Technical Lead. I'm interested to work in canada for better lifestyle and financial prospects. I have a couple of questions

1) Which category of Visa should I appy for( Permanent or Temp)
2) What is the procedure ( steps) once the category is known.
3) Some of the good consultants in and around bangalore.

I and most of people I know are doing it without consultant and but it is your personal choice. In my opinion if you have some time to invest and do some reasearch on cic web site and join this forum it should be fairly simple to apply with out a consultant.
