Hey Guys
Getting ready to submit next monday, just re reading everything and wonder if Guatemalan marriage certificate needs to be translated and notorized or can we send in the certificate we have (for those not from Guatemala you can get certified official copies of birth certificates and marrieage licences easily and cheaply here)

I think we can submit the certified true copy the civil office gave us without transtlating it, but would like to know what others think.... thanks so much

ps we got married here in guatemala dec 30 2010 and i am a tourist here as we apply for my husband (applicant) PR, we also just gave birth last week here and must stay in Guatemala until our baby gets her temporary passport... (I am the sponsor born in Canada)

Thank you in advance for your help

Congrats on you marriage and new baby ....

Well the regional guide for Latin America says on page 2

"If your documents are not in English or French, include an accurate translation with a copy of the originals. Failure to do so could result in substantial processing delays."

so I would say anything that you are sending, including your marriage certificate, needs to have a translation attached if it is not in English or French.

PS the guide also says : Send photocopies only of all other documents, unless instructed otherwise. So there is no need to send the original certified official copy. You may want to take another look at the guide before you send off your application.

Huron's right, you have to have translated any documents that are not in english.

My husband's from El Salvador, had to get all his paper's tranlated, thank god it was cheap to have it done down there.
