Grandparents Visa requirements

My sister and brother-in-law are trying to apply for a Grandparents Visa as their daughter and her family live in Victoria, BC. She is asking us siblings (all located in the U.S.) to provide her with copies of our birth certificates because a lawyer told them that would be helpful in her application. But I think she’s misunderstanding what they’re telling her, because it only makes sense to require someone’s proof of relationship if they actually live in Canada, (for points) which none of the siblings do. Isn’t that the way it works, to have a sponsor INSIDE Canada? Why would Canada care if she has siblings in the U.S.? I’m giving her a copy of mine anyway, but I have a feeling it’s not going to actually help her, right?

Are your sister and brother-in-law living in US?
May be they want to show family ties in US. But frankly this is the first time I've heard providing adult sibling birth certificate for visitor visa.

And it's not sure if they are apply super visa or visitor visa. For supervisa, it's more important to show sponsor have enough income to support the parents/grandparents.

I wonder if the lawyer is just asking for extra documents... so he/she can charge more hours...

Your niece is not their sponsor unless they apply for supervisa. If regular TRV, then your sister and brother-in-law should show their own funds.
