Want to know following for govt jobs for new immigrant -

1) what are the pre-requisite for applying govt jobs say for ON
2) Are PR people eligible or there is some clause for immigrants
3) Is French must?
4) What the sources of finding govt jobs if we plan to settle there..
5) Any1 got govt job after immigration & can they describe their story…

I believe govt jobs are safe & a bit recession proof so asking this.

1. I believe it's hard to get jobs by the government. Everybody wants one.

2. I don't know about all but for many of them, citizens come first.

3. French is a must for some jobs, it depends on what you are doing.

4. Do not assume you can walk straight into a government job. Get another job to start with and keep applying for the government. You can find government jobs online.

5. The only person I know who got a government job was a guy I was working with and he was Canadian. He was a cabinetmaker and he got a job on the army base in Edmonton. They had to do a security clearance before he could take the job, even though he's only building desks or whatever in a small shop. I could see that a security clearance might be a problem for an immigrant. I know another guy who got a job as a laborer for the city and that was through somebody he knew. He was not getting a huge amount of money to start but after 3 years he would be making decent money and the job security and benefits, pretty good. He was an immigrant but I am not sure if he was PR or citizen.
