If your permit is valid for 1 year only and it does not specify the college that you must attend, you can apply to extend it before it expires. However, when you apply for extension, you will have to show enough funds to show you can support yourself for the extra year.

If your permit specifies that you must attend a certain college/ university, you have to apply to get it changed to your new college and program.

1. Incorrect. You do not need to notify even if the type of institution is stated on your SP, provided you are changing over post-secondary level.

what I understand is that this also means if one is changing his program (masters level course) to another program (masters level) then he should notify the CIC office.... Right?

I am in Canada for 2 year university course that started in Jan 2013.
I want to changes to a 2 year course in a college Ontario College Diploma.
Diploma is post secondary level and my study permit says Any post secondary.

Do I need to apply for change to my study permit?
I will need few more months to complete my diploma after my current study permit ends. Will I be able to apply for study permit extension?

Thanks

1. Read again, you need to notify if changing from pre-to-post secondary.
